im not sure if anyone recalls but when i first went for my level 2, my doc said baby a had fluid in his kidneys, had a larger head and a short femur which were all markers for downs.

i since left that practice and am back with my old OB that i have grown up with. the new peri he sent me to said that his femur is 'shorter' than normal but in proportion to the rest of his body. he doesnt think there's need for concern.

anyone else have any feedback regarding this?
    thank you. :(

I don't have any feedback re. that, but wanted to say good for you for going back to your Dr. you are comfortable with.
That is great news that in his opinion there is no need for concern :good:

I'm glad your new OB isn't concerned. Now I know this would be alot of work, but is there any way maybe you can go to another u/s place to get a third opinion? Only because these two are seeing different things?

My sister in law's ds had a short femur on his level 2 u/s but they considered it porportionate to the rest of the baby. Her peri sent her to another peri to double check and they both agreed it was nothing to worry about. The parents are both of relatively short stature (neither one is more than 5'7" or 5'8"), which can factor in..

we are both tall but my Dh's family is short. Thats why i figured that maybe that baby was just shorted. the doc felt it was proportionate but of course, im concerned.

Oh yes...I have experience with this!

We had the nuchal u/s at 11 weeks...Anthony(baby b) was a 1 in 49 chance of having Down Syndrome. I was looking forward to the Level II u/s, as it would hopefully answer our questions(taking a look at the heart, etc).

Lo and behold...we just left with MORE questions(we did not do any additional testing prior to this u/s or after). Anthony had a femur that was short-2 weeks shorter than his brother's. Dr. told us it was a marker for Down Syndrome. He did say that however, could be genetic(my dh is short-5'4"). And the Dr even said he didn't win any awards in the height department!

Well, we went back every 4 weeks. When we went back the next time-it was still short-BUT-it grew appropriately over that 4 week time period. So that Dr. that saw us that day said things looked ok. They just need to cover themselves-so I understand.

Anthony was born healthy. And he is over 2 inches shorter than his brother!
