There was a poll in our local forum that showed what appeared to be a high number of left handers in twins so I was just curious if this would be also true with a larger number of participants.

I know handedness can change until about age 7 but at this point there is a strong preference. I know sometimes there is some signs of ambidextrous as well, however thought it would be easier to see results just including left and right handedness.

I have one left handed girl and one right handed. Sarah does some things with her right hand, but writes with her left. Caitlin is right handed. Their grandfathers on both my side and their father's side were left handed.

Heather is left handed. DH and I are both right handed so we were a bit surprised to see a lefty.

I have one of each. He is the only lefty in my family that I know of.

Surprisingly, both of my twins are lefties. Everyone in our families are right-handed. However, my dad was ambidextrous. My DS tends to be to.

My twins are both right-handed. I was surprised because their father and I are both left-handed.

I do know one set of twins (mirror image) and one is left and one is right.

Katherine is right handed. She does everything (bat, kick, etc.) righty.

Up until a few months ago, Michael would write with either hand. Lately, he is writing with his right hand. He bats lefty though.

My ID boys are lefties. It surprised us, as well, as DH and I are both right handed and don't have any immediate family that are left handed. It was a strong preference early on for both of them!

My boys are mirror twins. Hair falls in opposite directions, their teeth came in opposite, etc.. Aaron is a leftie and Connor is a rightie.

From what I have read, it is generally believed that handedness is hereditary, however there is no one that I know of in our family that is left handed so we were wondering if it might change over time. Instead my daughter is showing more signs of being a lefty. :)

I hope more people vote! Very interesting results so far.

I thought there was no one in my family who was left handed, but my Mom told me her Dad was when he was a child, but in those days they discouraged kids from using their left hands. He was forced to learn with his right and actually became ambidextrous. I figure that's where our seemingly "out of the blue" lefty came from.

I have one lefty & one righty. I am a righty & their dad is a lefty. They both showed a strong preference early on. They will be 6 in 2 months so I would be very surprised if their "handedness" changed at this late date.

My twins are both right handed. In fact, all my children are right handed, and my DH is a lefty, so i was kind of expecting one of my children to be a lefty. Although, it is still early for Jake, he still prefers his right hand.

I have a lefty and a righty. DH and I amd sisters are all right handed. No one from our immediate family is lefty. The boys just started ball and Jack has a right handed glove and it is the cutest thing.

I'm left handed, and wish that one of my kids was too mainly because I use both hands for stuff. I do sports right handed, but other stuff left. I think it's good (my own twisted theory?) for coordination!

I'm pretty sure my girls are mirror image, Ash is a lefty and Alicia is right handed. Everyone else in our family is right handed, even both of our parents and siblings. Obviously I have no idea about Blake yet.

My twins are both right handed. My mom and her twin are mirror image; my mom is right handed, my aunt is left handed. She is the only lefty I know of in both of our families.

We have one righty and one lefty - preference was early, but the lefty tends to be better either way. I was one of those kids who got pushed into right and still find myself preferring my left when I'm not thinking, tho disuse has made me weaker on the left. It's interesting stuff.

BTW, my lefty's teacher says she's taught for 4 years and this is the first time she's had a slew of leftys - there are 6 out of 16 in her class! She's been a gem about watching to see what modifications help :)

My girls are fraternal and 1 is LH and one is RH. My DH and I and all the other children (well, we don't know about the baby) are all right handed. My mom and her brother are both LH, though. Actually, my uncle was born LH, but the school switched him. He has the most atrocious handwriting and my mom thinks the fact that he was forced to change has been a handicap all his life. By the time my mom was in school 5 years later, my grandparents realized what a problem it had caused for my uncle and wouldn't let them do it to my mom.

Thanks everyone for sharing! The results here seemed to show a high number of lefties as well. I did some reading and wrote a short article on Hub pages and added a poll so it should be interesting to see what the results there show.

With my twins, Peyton is right and Paige is left handed. They are 5 right now and I have seen the hand favoritism since they were young. We think Chloe is also leaning towards being a lefty (she is only 3). My mom and brother are lefties and Dh and I are righties.

My b/g twins write with their right-hands, but my son eats with his left-hand and plays sports (ie. bats and throws left-handed). Both DH and I are righties.
