both my babies are on the liquid ready formula - dr recommended it because it is a little thicker and always
has the same amount of rice cereal - one is enfamil ar= the other on similac rs

dd always takes her full bottle- eats on schedule -no problem there

ds eats on demand- sometimes takes 5 ounces- other times takes 2 o 3 and falls sleep (he does sleep for longer streches of time)

can I put the left over formula back in the refrigerator if he ony took about 10 min to eat before he fell asleep?

I never really know how much he will want and since I have to heat it up...if I give him smaller amounts it would
take longer to feed and cant double feed

plus it gets expensive to keep throwing out the formula.... if the formula can be kept outside for 1 hour, why cant
I put it back and save it for later?

I always saved it once and if they didn't finish it the 2nd time I threw it out.

Because of the build up of bacteria from the saliva. There are lots who put it away and bring it out again without issue, but not me. I just chucked it after the hour and yes, its painful to through money down the sink especially if you have to feed Alimentum or Nutramigen like we did.

We save ours for the next feeding. So if they leave a few oz, I start with those, then just make up the remainder. It's always saved for just a few hours in the fridge, so I think it's OK. (At least, mine are 9 months and have never gotten sick).

Have you thought of making a pitcher of formula and filling bottles from that? This way you can make smaller or larger bottles depending on the day.

Direct answer to your question: I offer once and will save it but throw it away after I offer it again.

I will stick their bottles in the bottle warmer and offer them one more time. If the girls have a cold I sometimes dump the formula into a new bottle.

I always put back what was unfinished in the fridge and offered one more time before throwing out.

I always saved & then reused left over formula. My boys did fine. Daycare refused to use left over formula, so I used to make them save me the leftovers in another container. There were days I'd come home with 8-9 oz, which is like throwing out a whole bottle! I would reuse it within a few hours, sometimes even adding new formula to the old. I understand the rationale of throwing it away, but just couldn't bear to do it! My son, Conner, was inconsistent with eating but if I made him a small bottle, he would never take more if I'd make him a 2nd one, so I had to make sure I had enough for a full feeding with me when I sat down. Sometimes I'd take the left over bottle of like 3 oz & then make another 5 oz bottle so that he'd finish the 3 oz first & then we'd start on the 5 oz (which usually had left overs put in the fridge). However, if the formula ever sat OUT for like an hour or so, then I would dump it.....

Hee. I fed it to the barn cats, as loads of them were nursing litters. :D

Same here. Our doctor said to never use formula more than one time because of the bacteria in the saliva. I also used Nutramigen for awhile.

I reuse it for the next bottle or meal, but that's it. If it's going to stay overnight, I just pitch it.
