I always looked down on people who used those backpack "leashes" for their children, but now I find myself forced to consider them! I'd love to take my twins for a WALK (not stroller-ride) around the neighborhood occasionally and can't think of a safe way to do this alone without the "leashes!" They are pretty good about holding my hand, but it still seems a little risky. Anyone have any other suggestions? Or should I just break down and buy them?

The pair I have I leave in my handbag - easy to pull out if you need them. I don't use mine often however it's pretty much like walking two untrained badly behaved kangaroo's!

I have not used them yet but I am seriously considering them myself.

I used ours this past weekend at Dora Live. The usher said that he wished more people used the leashes, especially in high traffic areas.

I don't use them as a leash, I use them as a tether. It's my way of insuring that they're attached to me if they happen to drop my hand while we are walking. I just put the harness on them and loop the strap around my wrist. Using them as a leash (i.e. allowing them to go to the end of the leash and walk on their own) is not good. They get tangled up, one will sit down, they go in different directions. But using them as a backup, just in case they can't hold on to your hand, is great.

We bought the monkey leashes last week. So far we took them for a walk to our neighborhood park. It felt a little (ok a lot) like I was walking my dog :) The boys did great with them though, and Mason wore his the whole time he was at the park (I just unhooked the leash part so he could play) and for several hours after that. I'm going to keep them in the van for situations when one of us is alone with them and don't want to use the stroller.

I always thought it was terrible when I saw parents with leashes....until I had children! Now I get it, like so many other things I was ignorant about pre-kids.

I will seriously consider leashes when both boys are walking. When there's 2 of them and 1 of you, I think you have to do whatever you can to keep them safe.

My dudes currently have a dog obsession.. so I got the doggy ones… we haven’t worn them outside the house, but EVERY day they bring them to me and want me to put them on (it’s one of our best toys, seriously) I may never use it outside the house… but when I’m on my own in a crowed place for a long time (too long for the stroller)… I want the option… but I haven’t used them yet outside the house YET

This is what we do as well. I still make them hold hands, but if they jerk loose, it's not a critical situation because I have the leash. The babies LOVE them and think they are hilarious, so I don't feel even remotely guilty. And I'm able to have more control over my two than some of the singleton moms who would look down on me for using them. So, :p to them!

mine aren't walking yet, but i'm totally planning on using them when/as needed.

if it makes you feel any better, you can look down on all those parents who DON'T use leashes as obviously not caring very much about their child's safety! :p ;)

i also really like the idea of using it as a back up & still holding their hands. i'll keep that in mind for when the time comes. :good:

Why did I never think about holding their hands while they are in the leashes? I might have to try them again now. When I would put them in the leashes one would run up ahead, and the other would lag behind, it was such a pain, I was pulling one back, and pulling one forward all the time.
