How did you teach your preschoolers the alphabet? Did you just start with A and follow through or jump around? I bought the A Beka ABC123 workbook for DD this fall. I'm going to be using B4FIAR but thought I would throw in a worksheet here or there. They teach the vowels first then other letters. I'm going to go ahead and follow the workbook since honestly it will be easier.

ETA: I plan on using Teach your child to read in a 100 lessons but I'm putting it off until at least the beginning of the year. I might wait until next summer. I know DD isn't ready right now. We'll see after the beginning if the year.

Hmm.. my memory is poor. I had those magnets that you put on the fridge from leapfrog and that helped with the letters & alphabet. They also watched some tv which emphasized letters. I honestly cannot say that I sat down and worked with my toddlers with letters. :dunno: Books are great, the ones that are alphabet based.

I'm not doing anything major. Just showing her the letter, talking about the sound, and practice writing. DD loves writing letters so that's why we're doing that. Dd likes doing those type of worksheets too

I will be doing Abeka's K4 program. I did this with my middle son, but younger. I did Abeka's K5 with my oldest at 4. MDS learned his letters mostly through Leap Frog DVD's. ODS, learned strictly through Abeka. The twins know many letters and sounds already. I still want to complete the K4 program though, because it sets them up for the future introductions of blends and special sounds. It'll just be a bit easier than with ODS.

As you may be able to ascertain from the ABC 123 book, Abeka's introduction of letters is as follows: Ii, Uu, Ee, Aa, Oo, Tt, Ll, Bb, Nn, Mm, Hh, Ss, Cc, Dd, Gg, Rr, Ff, Jj, Kk, Vv, Ww, Yy, Pp, Zz

They introduce blending a consonant with a vowel, sounding blends, and one vowel words during the second six weeks while introducing the letters in red above. I like that they move from letter sounds to blending quickly. It gets them reading which they love...

Netflix has a few of the Leap Frog movies you can play instant and the kids love them.
