LeapFrogs new LeapPad

A coworker told me about this new toy that is coming out soon. My boys are obsessed with my iPhone and I would love to get an iPad but I am always very nervous when they have it – thinking they are going to drop it or throw it – plus they fight over it.

Anyhow – this new LeapPad appears pretty neato – although I cant get any of the demos to work online Wondering if anyone else has any insight into this. My boys don’t have any of the handheld learning or game toys but I have been thinking for Christmas we might get them something. Looks like this will be out for a couple of months before Christmas so I should be able to find some good feedback.

Any thoughts?

 

It's on my list for their next birthday but I have to admit I'm not sure they'll be easily available then... the pre-orders sold out in no time and you can't even find them on amazon

 

Personally, if you can afford it, I'd go with the iPad. You can train them to use it appropriately and they aren't going to outgrow it. My girls started using an iPad shortly after they turned three and we've never had any issues (with the exception of having to take turns so we set a timer).

That's just my two cents as a teacher and technology trainer.

 

I hadn't heard about these! Sounds like something my kids would LOVE!

 

They use the same catridges as the explorer but are supposed to have a larger screen and more apps.

 

I'm hoping to get 1 for my older dd (she'll be 5 in sept) for Christmas, and maybe for the twins for their 3rd b'day in Feb. Depends on if I'll be able to find them or not....

 

I pre-ordered these for their 4th bday. We are still waiting for them go come in. They should arrive this week. Yay! I'll let you know what we think when we finally get them.

 

My boys got the Explorers for Christmas last year. I wish they had these instead! My boys have been able to fully control my iTouch for over a year now. If you get one of the durable covers for it (and it's in your price range), the iTouch might be the best choice.
