Leaky, heavy overnight diapers

I'm still in search of the nighttime diaper dilemma we have with our boys. They pee a LOT, especially at night. They wear Huggies Overnights size 5, which from everything I have read is the best nighttime diaper out there. But they are still sagging and so heavy in the morning. They often wake up with wet PJs in the morning. Last night we tried Diaper Doublers for the first time. They seemed to help, but Jake still had a leak because his diaper was sagging so low there was a gap around his leg. Also, limiting drink intake before bedtime is not really possible. They are on an appetite stimulant that makes them thirsty, and we are already pretty careful about how much they drink.

I'm wondering if maybe the Huggies Nighttime Pull-ups with the diaper doubler would stay put better? But the absorbency is probably not as good with the pull-ups, right?

Anyone had any luck with nighttime pull-ups or have any better suggestions?

We still leaked with the overnight ones from Huggies. We use the Goodnites Pullups and they work fine. However, my son weighs 36 lbs right now. The small starts at 38 lbs and he has no problems wearing this. We use a cruiser with a diaper doubler with my daughter and we have no leaks. However, she only weighs 22 lbs. Others have had success but they did not work for us with the boy.

How much are they drinking before bed? You could try cutting back the amount, that might help.

Could you buy a large enough size of pull up that it would fit over the diaper for the extra protection? Not sure if that would work logistically??

OT How much did they weigh when they put them on the apitite stimulant and what age?

I think a pullup over diaper might work(liquid escaping the diaper would be caught in the diaper).

I can't remember how much they weighed when they were put on the stimulant, but since they were 15 months old, Ben has not even been on the weight/height percentile chart, and Jake usually is in the 3rd-4th percentile for weight and maybe 10th for height.... pretty sad, but they honestly don't look that bad! I think he put them on the stimulant around 17/18 mos. It's called cyproheptadine, and it has helped us a lot.

I hadn't thought about putting the pull-up OVER the diaper... hmmmm.....

When I couldn't find diaper doublers anymore, I purchased incontinence pads. I just bought the cheap CVS or Walmart brand.

We are going through the same thing. We use Huggies Overnites and a diaper doubler as well. The size 5 is better but like you said, still very full and sometimes wet pjs. Just this week I purchased a two pack (from Kmart) of plastic covered training pants. They have a cotton lining (not just vinyl) for about $5. They are machine washable too. It looks bulky but Ian didn't seem to mind and it did the job. Hope this helps!! I know it's frustrating. I have tried to cut back fluids by giving them milk at dinner and nothing after that. Ian just drinks A LOT of fluid! (example: a sippy cup of milk upon waking, and then a cup of water w/ breakfast)

I had the same problem. What I did was put rubber pants over their diapers at night. It works good.

I would take other people's advice about doubling up diapers/pullups or using the rubber pants.

However I would not use pull-ups in place of diapers. They are not nearly as absorbant as diapers in my experience and I am not having the issues you are having.

    Best wishes,
    Ellen

We used Diaper Doublers with Huggies Overnights and only had a couple leaks. With 2 toddlers, that's not bad.

Thanks to all for the ideas! Definitely food for thought!

Also, we had a "dry" morning this morning, so hopefully those doublers will have a pretty good track record as the days go by. If not, I will try out these suggestions.

You could try the nightime GoodNites by Huggies but quite honestly, My Brett age almost 4 years uses them just at night and they would never fit my twins which are the same age as your twins and probably bigger. My guys are huge.

I would say that you should limit their intake of liquid 2 hours before bed.

I ditto what Dianne said. Jaydon had surgery when he was 20 months old, which required him to have a cathetar for 14 days and we did this and it worked well.
