Leaky Diapers

Hello ladies
I need some advice. We have had some issues with my 17 month DS and leaky diapers. In the last few weeks, he is awakened in the middle of the night because his diaper has leaked and he is completely soaked. I have tried a bigger size diaper, a different brand of diaper, doubling up on diapers, pullups, diaper & pullup and still we have leaky diapers.
I am starting to lose my mind. Getting up in the middle of the night to change diapers, pjs, sheets and at the same time trying to make as little noise as possible so I do not wake up my DD.

Have any of you experienced this?
Any advise?

 

Have you tried overnight diapers? We had this problem for a while, and then we switched to Huggies Overnights at bedtime, and have rarely had a leak since then.

Where is the leak occurring? At the top of the diaper, or to the side? Are you pointing his penis down when you're diapering him for the night? We have to diaper Jack "up" because of his chordee issue, and he is the only one we have leaking problems with (rare but occasional, and always over the top of the diaper).

Is your DS drinking more in the evenings lately? Maybe you could limit his liquids after a certain time of the night. ardon:

Just throwing out some ideas here; hopefully you'll figure this out soon! It must be a huge pain to have to change everything in the middle of the night. I guess I'm "lucky"; my guys will lie in their own swill for hours without complaint. :wacko:

 

I used to use the Pampers Extra Protection Diapers with a maxi pad in it...that combo seemed to help my DS with leaks. It sounds like you've tried everything. I would also make sure his penis is pointed down and I also had the pad towards the front because that was where the pee is concentrated.

 

We had the same scenario & chnges to Huggies Overnights. I personally liked them better than the Pampers (yet the girls wear "Cruisers" during the day!). The overnights work great, & my girls sleep 12 straight hours with no leaks & no worries. Awesome!

 

We use Huggies Overnights and every now and then my one son will wake up soaked. It does not happen enough for me to go to a larger size but I do notice it on mornings when they drink before bed. There are times I forget to take their sippy of water away before they eat dinner (they get milk with dinner) and they will continue to drink it for the rest of the evening.

I would try to limit his liquids at least 1 1/2 hours before bed and see if that helps.

 

We use the Huggies Overnights a size bigger and have only had a couple leakers. GL!

 

If you can't find a good solution diaper wise, a fleece or wool diaper cover might help (one that's designed for cloth diapers). I've read that both prevent most leaks.

 

you've gotten lots of good tips for diapers already - i would second the cloth diaper option. most cloth diapers out there these days you can add extra absorbency to as needed (for example, we use pre-folds with one hemp liner & one fleece liner overnight + cover & that works great for us).

i was also going to suggest for those nights that he has a leak anyway you could try making his bed in layers: mattress, fitted sheet, water-proof mattress pad, fitted sheet. that way if he leaks on the top sheet you only have to pull off the top sheet & mattress pad & you're good to go. GL!

 

I wish you could get the "Huggies" they sell here in Australia. Wow they are great. I used pampers when I was back home in Canada and HATED THEM. The huggies here are thicker and have a nice gathered at the back to keep the diaper in tight. I get a FULL 12 hours without a worry of a leak. I went through so many more diapers when I had to use those pampers crap.

good luck! we cloth diaper and had the issue back around that age too... my temporary solution was one of the overnight brand of disposables. but I finally got made some fleece "shorties" that cover the legs and waist openings nicely and now I use those on top of the cloth diapers with an extra hemmp insert... I know its no fun to wake up b/c of a wet baby.

I would also second the 'pointing his penis down'... that will always be a mishap if one of us forgets! good luck!

 

I use cloth during the day but can't find a cloth solution at night and since they are soaked in a regular diaper at night I started puttig wool covers over regular diapers and they aren't soaking wet anymore.

How much milk is she drinking during the night? when my two were up every 2-3 hours they were leaking even through the huggies overnights. now they only get one bottle in the middle of the night and dont really drink it. since that started, they dont leak anymore. dont use huggies...they dont hold much
