So at 34 weeks today, we did a detailed growth scan and saw the doc too.

Baby A (Nathan) is 3lbs 15oz, placenta's good and amniotic fluid volume's good too. Breech
Baby B (Gizelle) is 4lbs 5oz, placenta's good and amniotic fluid volume's good too. Transverse :nea:

When I went in to see the doc with the results, she's pretty alright with their weight, as she's pretty confident that their weight will improve in the next 2-3 weeks. Thus, we've set the delivering date to be 10th Dec!! :yahoo: I'm happier than anyone cos that date doesn't seem too far, and yet I wouldn't have to wait till 38 weeks to deliver them!

Here comes the part where I'm not happy about! We were planning for epidural all these while cos hubby and I wants to see the babies once they're out, but now, the doc says that it would be advisable to go under GA, given the breeche and transverse position of the babies. I dunno if any other doc does the same thing as her, but she said GA would probably be more comfortable for me (duh..I'll be knocked out) cos she might need to do some manipulation (tugging, pulling, etc) and is afraid that I might feel uneasy. So, there goes our dreams of watching the birth of our little angels...

Can you ask your OB for an epideral instead? Talk to her about wanting to see your babies and that you are willing to deal with the uncomfortableness. I wouldn't have traded the time I saw them for the first time for anything. If that is something you really want to do, I am not quite understanding why she couldn't change her thoughts. I, personally, haven't known anyone that had to go under GA. My best friend had to have a C for her twins because of the same reason and she only had and epi.

My baby A was breech and baby B was transverse - I had a spinal and did just fine. Why don't you ask her if you can have the spinal and try it out? If you are just so uncomfortable and cannot stand it....they can always knock you out.

Wow I have never heard that one before. My baby b was transverse but they were vaginal so thats different but I have heard of many people who had transverse babies and all did it under spinal.....I would def ask and then they can always put you under if it gets too painful. At least you will have seen baby a born then!

    Good luck!

I think that's rediculious (sp?). I've never heard of that before. I'd make an issue about it - you want to experience it if you can!

That's crazy! My A was breech and my B transverse. I had a spinal and very little discomfort even though B was over 8lbs. General anesthesia depresses the babies so it should only be used in a true emergency when there isn't time for an epi or spinal. I would do a little research about what general anesthesia does to the babies and go in armed with that info. Tell the doctor you will only accept general if it is absolutely necessary.

My doc does an epi/spinal combo for numbness and pain management. Maybe you can talk to the anisthesia team at your hospital?

I definitely wouldn't want to be knocked out if at all possible. Plus, the babies will get some of that GA too and it makes their scores and feeding go down because they're under GA when they're born.

I absolutely would not allow general for the birth of my children (unless of course there was an emergency). My babies were born C and I had a spinal, I felt some tugging but with a spinal you are numb. Lucas was breech and we were not expecting that at all, so I would think that a general is going overboard and you really need to talk to your doc about it.

Honestly I'd really talk to him about this. My babies are the same as yours - A is breech and B is oblique transverse. From what I was told at the hospital I'll be getting a spinal/epidural. Nothing has ever been mentioned about general. I'd be ticked off as heck. I go in tomorrow for my 36 week appt / amnio so I'll double check with them then but I don't understand why you would need general. I thought that was only for emergency c's where there was no time for a spinal/epidural.

I think you ladies are right...I should have made noise about it...but i guess after waiting for 2 whole hrs to see her I was too tired to say anything. Next week we're seeing her again..will definitely bring that up. Thanx for the encouragement ladies!!

My OBs have talked about general as a worst-case scenario--something you'd want to avoid if possible and do only in an emergency. It introduces increased risks to the mother along with the sadness of missing getting to see your babies born. If you are OK with a certain amount of discomfort, I'd definitely go for a spinal and/or epidural!

Same with me. A was breech and B was transverse, and I had a spinal and was fine. I barely felt anything (except a little pressure) and my twins were born at 36w3d and they were 5lbs and 5.8 lbs ...

I wouldn't agree to that! Good luck and let us know that your doctor says!

My guys were born at 33 weeks and 1 day.....4 lbs 14 oz and 4 lbs 15 oz. Baby A was head down and Baby B was transverse....so we had a Csection and used only a spinal! I would not change a thing about it! I was up and walking just 3 hours after their birth! I wanted my hubby in there as well. I would not allow them to do General on me, for all of the reasons mentioned before!

Good luck to you and your little ones arrival!

All of your birth weight and story sounds so great!! My angels are 34 weeks and they're only 3lb 15 oz and 4lb 5oz! *worried*

That sounds really weird to me. I had a very similar situation and my OB never mentioned GA -- she just assumed we would do spinal. Sarah was transverse, but Amy was breech (and really wedged in under my ribs), so there was a lot of tugging, but I didn't feel anything at all. My OB only does GA for emergency c-sections, not for planned ones.

Emotionally, I would perhaps have preferred to be knocked out (that's just me -- I was so scared), but we compromised and she gave me some IV anesthesia after the babies were out, so I could sleep through the sewing-up at least. (In retrospect, I wish I hadn't done that, because the aftereffects were not fun.)

I'm glad you're going to say something... Both of my boys were breech and I had no problems with the epi/spinal combo. I felt tugging, but it didn't hurt- I was numb from the chest down- there was no pain or discomfort. I don't know why they would want to knock you out if it wasn't an emergency. Don't worry about their sizes- those are great weights. U/S measurements can be off!!

All your stories gave me confident to go in and re-negotiate with my doc next week! Hubby's also feeling very disappointed cos he's been longing to see the birth of his first babies (grammer error, but hey, we're having twins, right? :p). But he's also very sweet and concerned if doc say so, we should follow, but I beg to differ after hearing all your birth stories!! I'm sure after going through the entire pregnancy, a little tugging and discomfort would be nothing unbearable!
