Sorry for all the questions on membranes lately. I'm really trying to figure this all out and make sense of it.

I have di/di twins. But, what throws me so off is the fact that my membrane has been SOOOO super thin, like a mo/di twin pregnancy...how is this possible with a di/di pregnancy??? I've read that the membrane is a lot thicker with di/di twins. No wonder I'm throwing off all the doctors, LOL!!! They say my membrane is that of a mo/di pregnancy. LOL!

BTW, I'll definitely be putting a call into my doctor tommorrow. I am so anxious to know something!!! TIA!

There isn't really a "thin" or "thick" membrane. There are 4, 2, or 0 membranes between them. In a di/di pregnancy, there are 4. This is the safest twin pregnancy and cause for celebration.

I personally don't understand why some doctors choose to use this particular terminology. It leaves a good deal of room for confusion.

Wow, that's really interesting, thanks so much for pointing it out. I don't know why they use that terminology either. The radiologist noted a "thin membrane." Now if it's so thin, it really can't be 4. That would be a lot wider, I would think? I can't even see a membrane in the u/s's. They can barely see it.

My babies were di/di and I had one ultrasound tech tell me it was a “thin” membrane. Sometimes they would scan and it would like a fishing line and other times I couldn’t tell where it was.

    Thanks for sharing that. :)

Everywhere I've read mentioned di/di twins always had a "thick" membrane. Which makes it very confusing for someone in my situtaion. I wish the info out there wasn't so misleading and confusing when it comes to this subject.

I think that the further along you are..the harder its going to be to tell the difference. But if your early u/s's said di/di.. then you are more certain to have di/di twins.. whether they are identical or not is still questionable.. At 11 weeks mine were most certainly in 1 chorion sac.. made it much easier to diagnose identical because there was only 1 placenta. Wasn't your first u/s much earlier then mine though?

My first was good u/s was at 11 weeks. I believe that's when we found out there was two placentas.

I've got a call into my doctor for further clarification. It's driving me nuts that they both think I have a great chance of having identical. I want to remind them that I had two placentas, so how can they be so certain about identical...especially if I was on clomid! That lowers that 20%-30% for identicals down way lower. LOL!

I think two placentas would be tell-tale signs that you have a di/di pregnancy indeed. Even if you have a di/di pregnancy, apparently it is possible for you to have identicals. . . but I think you're right that your doc can't really be certain at this point.
