My sons look nothing alike to me and DH. However, they have the same blood type. Is it possible to be so different looking and be identical? They were di/di in the womb.

Yes. My boys looked different when they were young and are now beginning to look totally identical.

It is possible to be di/di and identical, that's how my girls were. But mine look alike.

Mine looked very different the first year but are now becoming more and more similar. I started debating when they both had blond hair and blue eyes and the same blood type. DH and I both have brown hair but my mom and sister have blond hair. Noone has blue eyes. I have brown and DH has hazel. I finally did DNA testing at 16 months and they are indeed ID. They were di/di with a fused placenta so the entire time I was pregnant I thought they were ID. Turned out they are!

I think the main things that rule out ID are different hair colors, eye colors, stuff like that. So if those things are the same, time will tell or if you are super curious like I was, order the test. I like knowing for sure.

Post some pictures and we will give you our opinions! Some TS members are really good at guessing correctly.

Post us some pics!! We love to guess!!! :)

Side by sides of their faces work best! :)

My boys had different skin complexion (one had jaundice), different amounts of hair (which made the boy with more hair appear to have a slightly darker shade), and very different head shapes (which made their faces look different). We were so very sure they were fraternal until about 4 months when the crop of new hair became obvious and it was exactly the same color and coming in exactly the same way. The older they got, the more alike they looked but we still needed a test to know for sure because they still look different to us and anyone who is very observant.

My story is just like Debi's. Born looking totally different, skin tones, head shapes, hair. I laughed it off then the pedi's attending the birth said they were mono-di. I was sure it was a fused placenta and they just didn't have the experience/facilities to tell. But by 4 months when they started to grow into their real faces they started looking alike, and just got more and more and more alike. I never tested, since I was told mono-di at birth and I do trust my eyes.

How old are your tiwns? IF they are under six months they may still grow to look alike. I think the best time to judge with pics is between 9 and 12 months.

My boys were di/di and have the same blood type(AB- supposedly the rarest) so our insurance authorized DNA testing but they are definitely fraternal - anything is possible with twins I suppose
