    Hi ladies!
I will officially be here in 21 short days but I just wanted to say I made two bottles each for tomorrow and then that's it! I'm going to try and do whole milk cold turkey starting Sunday. I am SOOOO nervous because Emma hasn't taken to a sippy too easily and isn't a fan of changes. The pedi said anytime after 11 months is fine. So, here we go. Any encouragement from people who have been in a similar boat (not taking sippy too well, one twin not a fan of change) please help!!

    Whoo-hoo, that is great news!!

I found that Trevor did not drink too well from his sippy until he knew he would not be getting a bottle. She will get the hang of it, just be consistent.

    Good luck!!!

I was so glad to be done bottles!!!

If your one twin doesn't take the sippy too well, how are you going to get the required amount of milk into her? I don't think I would get rid of the bottles cold turkey. My pedi said not to change two things at once....meaning formula to milk and bottle to sippy. If I were you, I'd take one bottle away at a time and offer the sippy instead. That's what I did. My girls were getting 4 bottles and I took the afternoon one away first and gave a sippy. Then the mid morning bottle away, then the morning bottle...and I'm taking the night bottle away in a week or sooner.

    Good luck whatever you decide!

Just be consistent. Her intake may go down for a few days, but keep offering the milk in the sippy and she'll figure out that that is how she's going to get her milk.

I really had the best luck with the Nuby straw sippy cups.

Well, you are ahead of me because I just changed to sippies last week. They did fine with the milk vs. formula but I did it slowly and they were fine with it. I think it was harder getting them to drink milk from a sippy. I don't have any real advice for how to make it as smooth and perfect as we would all like that change to be. The only think I can offer are some words of wisdom that someone offered me when I was freaking out about the whole thing. My friend reminded that me that milk is not what is keeping my girls alive and that as long as you offer them dairy in other ways, it's fine. She also told me that when she made the transition that one of her daughters didn't drink milk for 7 months and now will ONLY drink it with chocolate in it. That made me feel soooooooo much better. I realized that I was just so used to giving them the formula from the day they were born and at one point it WAS the essence of their calories and nutrition that I forgot that it was not their main food intake anymore. If they don't adjust right away and refuse, just keep offering it to them and eventually perhaps they will take it. If you are still freaking out (like I was a little bit) you could try adding a little bit of Quick powder to their milk which is what I do now. I use vanilla flavor and just add a little bit to sweeten it slightly. Once they get into a good pattern of drinking milk regularly then I will slowly phase the vanilla out. GL and keep us posted on how it goes.

What I did was first get them used to milk in their bottles. I know some say not to but my ds isn't so fond of changes and didn't like the sippy cup at all! After they were on milk, my dd was easy! One morning I just put it in there and she took it, ds not so much. I have been letting him do it on his terms, I guess. He will now take the sippy cup for two out of three bottles, the morning is the one he won't take in a sippy! My advice would be the same as Kelly, don't do to much change at once. And don't stress about it, they will get it. I worked myself into the biggest frenzies (don't know how to spell that!) and in the end, he wasn't going to do my way anyway! Guess I am not to much help...I just wanted to give you some support that you can do it momma!!! :D Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Yikes. I still haven't done it. We changed from formula to whole milk at about 13 months (that late because I had so much formula left). I introduced it slowly. One quarter whole milk for a few days, then half/half for more days, then three quarters whole milk to one quarter formula for another few days. It worked great and they didn't even notice but I sure did. It was so awesome to not mix formula. Glorious. I would do one thing at a time. Let them have the comfort of their bottles for a little bit longer but change to whole milk now. Good luck.

Michelle! I bet they will do fine! Emma was not so fond of sippies either, until she had no choice! Now she loves them! Good luck! :hug99:

I also switched them to milk in their bottles first and then switched them to their sippies shortly after they got used to whole milk. If you want to make both changes at once I would just recommend that you stay consistant. They will get used to the sippy cups and will use them if they know that there are no other bottles coming.

    You can do it!! :)

Michelle, I don't see why you can't transition your "averse to change" child a little more gently. You have time! I would start with the mid-day bottle and then take away the a.m. bottle (replace with sippy) and then do the bedtime. You can do one every 4-5 days or so and make it a little easier on yourself.

My sil is doing this at just after a year (her son doesn't eat very many solids) and he doesn't really like the sippy's either, but he'll get there. He gets middle of the night bottles and formula because he's not eating solids well yet. (still eats baby food and yogurt - hardly any chunky foods)

I don't see anything WRONG with going cold turkey, but just give yourself a break if you need it they aren't a year yet!

Around 11 months, we did half formula and half milk for about 1 week and then a very small amount of formula with mostly milk the next week and then the following week, all milk. They really did not notice the transition. Good Luck! Nothing better than being off formula!

I agree w/ Kelly. We still have 1 bottle a day (at bedtime). My ped is fine with it.

I was very conflicted after reading all the posts and wasn't sure what to do. I decided, after LOTS of hemming and hawing, I would do what I had planned and try cold turkey. They didn't have their usual 1 p.m. bottle today so midafternoon I tried it and Emma (the harder to adjust baby) chugged it down! Okay, maybe just luck right? I have to add that they were crrrrranky this afternoon because they only had a quick car nap because they were at a party. After bath I offered the milk again, no go (for Emma). Lauren is doing great, as I figured she would. So I let the cup sit around for a while, she played with it, tossed it around, etc. but she wouldn't drink. Just before I was ready to put them down, I layed her on my lap as I would normally with a bottle and she chugged the entire thing without ever coming up for air! Soooo...we're two for two but we'll see what tomorrow brings. I know consistency is the key so I've got my fingers crossed!!!!

I forgot to mention in my original post that they have become disinterested in their bottles the past week or so, and barely finishing most of them. Also, our pedi said anytime after 11 months was fine because they are gaining well. So, this is what lead me to believe it was time for a change.

THANK YOU for all your advice, I do appreciate it.

We had another successful day today. I find that they are hungrier though, which I didn't expect so I have given them a ton of solids today. They almost finished two full cups of milk (their sippies are 7 oz. cups) so far and I'm going to offer them another before we go upstairs for our bedtime routine. I am finding if I catch them between meals and snacks they just chug it. I am having GREAT success!! YAY!!
