Do you have a last day of school set? Do you school year around? Or just lighten the load over summer? My DS is in school this year but I've been working with my DD who's In preschool. DS's last day is May 25 so I'm making that DD's last day too. I do plan to teach DS to read using "100 Easy Lessons" over the summer. DD isn't even close to being ready to read. Just curious what everyone else does?

No, we don't ever have a specific last day of school. It sounds ridiculous, but we just sort of fade out as the weather gets nicer. There are certain things I'll want to finish for the school year, but they take a little longer when the weather is nice. When we finish them, great! I do try to have the kids do some math a couple days/week through the summer. And we still read quite a bit, but mostly for fun.

My kids do math year round. We drop other subjects as we finish them.

I'm sort of doing the fading out thing. We finished out math curriculum, so no more math until fall. We will be reading throughout the summer, though. I'm planning to do some reading charts and set some summer goals. I figure will will officially be done with this school year on June 1st. But, we are already doing a much lighter load.

I do a combination of the fade out and school year round thing. I know sounds complicated, but it really isn't. Reading, phonics, and math we do year round. Spelling, writing, vocabulary, copywork, history, and science fade out once we finish the book.

Obviously my 12 year old doesn't have phonics, but she'll read and do math all summer.

My 10 year old is still doing phonics and so he'll do it all summer long.
