So DS1 is starting school on monday and we got him all his supplies on the list, and it also says to label all items.
Sooo, do i have to label everything, even individual crayons[IMG] ???? What about bags, shoes, clothes?? This is our very first time, so we have no clue!
    Thanks

I would think you need to label the crayon box - not the individual crayons. Shoes I would not label (how often are their shoes going to be off their feet??)BUT I would label jackets, lunch boxes, bags etc. Anything that could get mixed up in the classroom or left on the play yard. I found owning a black and a silver sharpie works best. Black writes on light colored stuff and silver stands out on dark colored stuff.

What I find amusing now is that I am crossing off my oldest's name and replacing it with my youngest's on a lot of stuff.

I agree with labeling backpacks, lunchboxes, and if you use sandwich keepers (which I highly recommend), those as well. As for supplies, I label each folder, the scissors, each dry erase marker, but only the boxes on crayons and pencils. I also label jackets.

I labeled each crayon and pencil. The teacher wanted a pencil box for each kids and the pencils and crayons are loose in there. She threw out the boxes. But I did label everything. I haven't gotten to jackets yet, but I will.

    Thanks everyone,
the teacher asked for pencil cases, so i guess i'll label them so, as for te shoes, they have to change from outdoor shoes to indoor ones before getting into class, so i guess they would have to be labelled also.

I'd label any- and everything they might possible take off or leave behind. I'm amazed at what ends up in our school's lost-and-found : mateless sneakers, flannel shirts, lunch boxes, thermoses, in addition to the jackets, gloves, etc, you'd expect. Heck, if you volunteer much, you should consider labeling your umbrella and that kind of thing! To allow for hand-me-downs or things that either girl might use, I label some things with our last name instead of their first.

I also try to label things with our last name and first initial. We don't have a really common last name in this area so if it gets left behind we have a good chance of getting it back. But that's for coats, lunch boxes, and things like that since our school provides all school supplies. I have seen some strange things also in the lost and found box.
