I have 2.5 year old ID twin boys. One of my boys knows his own name and will tell you if you ask him (after much teaching...he used to call himself by his brother's). The other continues to call himself by his brother's name and is ADAMANT if you correct him. Anyone else encounter this issue? I'm afraid I've screwed up his identity already. LOL. (not really, but ya KWIM).

I was just asking Grace's speech therapist about this today. They do know their own and each other's names, but when they get excited sometimes I think they get confused and call each other by their own name. Plus my 5 year old niece was here at Christmas and they were calling her Gracie (her name is Emma). They were very excited at the time, and having lots of fun playing with her.

Anyways, her ST said twins do confuse their names sometimes, it's pretty normal.

    interesting.

My twins know their older dd and ds's names and knows that I am mom and dh is dad but when it comes to their own names and each other's names they seem to have no idea. Glad to hear we're not the only ones.

We have a little identity crisis ourselves. Nicky always calls himself Nicky. Joe always calls Nicky Nicky. Nicky mostly calls Joe Joe, but ocassionally also identifies him as "Nicky". Joe often calls himself "Nicky".

Both boys always identify the babies in the picture as "Nicky", even when they are both in the picture.

At 21m, I'm not too concerned about it. We go over it whenever it comes up, and I'm sure it will work itself out. At 3 I'm sure they'll have caught on to the fact that it will be a funny joke and do it just as frequently but for different reasons.

Mine know there own names (Luke more than Lee), but when they see themselves in the mirror or they see a picture of themselves, they say "bubba" (yes we are from Texas!!) I was in a dressing room one time with one of them and he saw himself in the mirror and kept saying "bubba". It was pretty cute!

Lauren calls herself Sienna all the time. She'll do something and say "I did it....yah for Sienna." I just laugh and say "Yes, but you are Lauren." :p

I don't worry since I know she does know her own name, when I call Lauren she comes or at least looks up. :D

My Allison will point to her sister and say, "Sarah", then when we ask her name she says, "I Sarah". I think it's probably because Allison is just too hard for her to say right now but we laugh everytime she does it, so now it is probably because she knows we will laugh and tease her when she does it.
