When we move at the end of the month, the kids will have access to the kitchen for the first time, so I need to keep them from getting into everything. Any recommendations for:

    -cabinet locks
    -drawer locks
    -stove knob covers

And while we're at it, how about toilet locks?

Sorry if this has been asked a million times! Just curious what brands are good/awful. I bought a toilet lock a while ago that turned out to be a useless piece of junk, and I don't want to get burned again.

Holly, I consider myself to have a graduate degree in child proofing (b/c the twins kept evolving requiring mutliple upgrades). My kids have never been banned from the kitchen. These were my favorites:

*Standard cabinet locks I got at target (red box, I believe by "Parents"). Make sure you get the level just right, b/c if you get it a little low, the kids can just pull hard and 'rip' it right open.
*Don't bother with toilet locks, frig locks, oven locks...I tested them all out for you already and they all SUCK! I love, love, LOVE the 'multipurpose latch', available at Target (red package) and Walmart (blue package). I used these for:
    • Toilets (avoid using bathroom cleaners - vinegar and water is great - as it leaves a residue that doesn't agree with the adhesive and it just pops off/becomes too slick)
    • Sliding shower doors
    • The drawer under the oven (you know, where you put all your pots and pans)
    • Frig/freezer doors
    • Oven door (I actually use the regular oven door lock most of the time, but this is my reinforcement).

Check out Safe Beginnings for a spectacular selection of kidproofing products. Enter a coupon code of "GW" (in the left hand column of the main page) and get 20% off of everything. Good luck!
