So.. Trying to decide the "big" Santa gift this year.. Last year was iTouch's, which they love. Just looking for opinions on the Kindle Fire, for those that have iTouch's. Are they different enough to warrant having both? Or will the Fire make the iTouch's obsolete?

I'm a library girl myself, and have avoided the e-reader & tablet bug, so I'm clueless :)

I don't have an iTouch so I can't help you there, but I can say, I just got my Kindle fire last week and I adore it! ;)

We are going with iPad minis and they have recycled iPhones. The kindle will have different games than the touches for sure

I have a kindle and an iphone and while the kindle is fun, I am not sure it necessarily offers much variety from the iphone/ipod genre.

My kids have the NOOK Simple Touch. Call me a mean mom, but all it does is let them read books. I see kids at school with the tablets and they are playing Angry Birds, etc. when they should be reading. My boys go back and forth beyond their NOOK's and regular books. But they do tend to keep their NOOK's with them as a back up book.

My boys are now 10, and they don't have phones, iTouches, or any of that stuff. They play their DS's less and less, and would rather just have a book.

DH and I have iPhones and iPads, and each of my girls have Kindle Fires. I guess I don't know enough about the iTouch to know if it warrants owning both. I would think the Kindle Fire would have a bigger screen? And you can, well at least at our library, borrow books electronically to the Kindle Fire and iPad. I never have to physically go to the library, I can do it all online. But we do go to the library quite a lot in the summer when we can ride our bikes there. :)

If I asked my DDs if they'd rather have an iPad or a Kindle Fire, I think they would both answer iPad, but they really do like their Kindle Fires and use them a lot. I never get asked to use my iPad anymore. :)

It will most probably make the iTouch obsolete. You can probably get the same apps for both really.

I don't know about the itouch, but the Kindle Fire has been amazing for my girls. One thing I love, and maybe it's this way with all the tablets, but when we buy an app or music on one, all the family Kindles can download it - great especially for twins. The parental controls are good, fun learning games + books + free movies on our HBO account and our Amazon Prime account. We're donating their DS systems/games - I always hated those little cartridges, and, without fail, one would always want to play the same game her sister was playing. Now they can.

    Best,
    Mia

If you are going to get them Amazon has the fires right now for $129.

The girls only have the Nook ereader too that only has books. They have their ipod touch as well but they are not allowed to take those to school and I only allow the Nooks bc I know they can only read.
