now im not trying to sound ungrateful, i am SOOO thankful there are programs like WIC, and i understand a policy is a policy. we went today and got our vouchers for the next few months, i didnt realize they arent valid until 11/3. well DS is out of formula (hes on nutramigen, cha-ching!!) and we've already bought 5 cans. i called and asked if i can get vouchers for this month, my son ran out, and she said we would have to buy them ourselves until the november 3rd. where am i gonna get the money? i guess i'll have to charge it, we're on WIC cuz we dont have money. i know some of you dont qualify for WIC and have to buy formula out of pocket, and i do understand the expense cuz we had to buy it out of pocket once we ran out of frozen BM, for about 2 months, dh was in bootcamp and had all the documents i needed to apply. im just so overwhelmed with all the hospital/nicu/ambulance/bloodwork/xray bills. apparently they are all seperate, imagine that! i get statements from the ambulance co, the nicu, the hospital, and for tests. insurance has already covered their portion. i feel so...hopeless? sad? depressed? i dont know the word for it. we're gonna be paying medical bills forever. dh asked if i wanted him to re-enlist now so we could have the bonus money to pay it all off. what am i supposed to say to that? i tell him its up to him, those places can take payments. ugh what a day

This isn't really advice but I wanted you to know someone appreciates your sacrifice for America.
I think it's outrageous that a military family is paid so little that they qualify for WIC. Soliders, sailors and Marines protect our country and every single person in it and deserve to be paid more! Thanks for all the sacrifices you make to protect our freedom. We do appreciate it!

I have no advice about wic, but I would call Tricare. We didn't pay a penny for our NICU stay or my hospital stay. You shouldn't either! Fight with them!!

You and your family deserve our thanks. It's not lost on me how much you sacrifice for our freedom everyday! I am proud to live outside the US Naval Academy and have served as adoptive families for many midshipmen.

I would call Tricare, too, unless your DH wasn't in the service when they were born. DH was married to his XW when he enlisted. She went into labor while he was inprocessing for Basic, and they turned around and picked up the whole bill, even though he'd barely started, even though it was a civilian hospital and even though his DD spent some time in the NICU. It's certainly worth trying.

thank you for all the advice mamas. my old insurance picked up some of it, and tricare picked up some, but we're still left with quite a large amount. we were all under standard at the time, and it was out of network. who knows? i can see on the statements what tricare paid, and what bcbs paid, and then what i owe, so i know the insurance co. have paid SOMETHING. ugh we shall see

Hey, Army Wife here too. We did not pay a cent for any pregnancy or part of their birth. I am not sure why you would be getting friction. Are you active duty?

As for the formula, no help here.. You may want to measure his intake and make sure it is where it is suppose to be. Your ped and/or the WIC nutritionist should know how much a baby needs.. As a heads up, the babies will only increase the amount they take daily, so you may have to start buying even more.

Hugs to you and the babies..

Ohhhhhhh I just saw where you had "other insuracne too" that is the problem. Tricare wants them to pay up. We had that problem too when my stepdaughters mother had insurance on her too from her work. Once she was Tricare only, they pay for everything..

Chat at you later, K? If you have any Questions..

I wish i had known you were in need of nutramagen. I just sold a whole bunch.. I would have mailed it to you just for shipping.. :( When DD1 was a baby we went thru formula like nothing and we still had to buy 2-3 cans a month.. Where i lived, for normal formula was 25$ a can. My x brought home $300 a week. We couldnt afford anything.. Let alone formula and diapers!!! I feel for you! Things will get better soon!!!

Has your ped's office contacted the formula manufacturer for you? My ped's office sent a multiple's program form to Enfamil for me and I received a case of concentrated formula by UPS less than a week later. I know that's not immediate help but it can't hurt to try.

Good luck. I hope things get better.

I don't have advice for you but just wanted to say I'm so sorry you're feeling overwhelmed and just want to send you a hug! I also want to ditto everything Christine said. I hope that Tricare does pay up eventually! I had two different insurance policies in place when I went through a major medical ordeal a year ago and was amazed at how they tried to cover LESS while we were paying MORE to have the two different policies! (They happened to overlap.) But eventually the bills did get paid and we were only responsible for the copay; we just had to fight with them and go through a lot of hassle. Hoping this works out smoothly for you so you can be rid of that pressure and focus on your babies!

It's ok to feel frustrated. We had to wait for what seemed like forever to get everything straightened out for WIC, etc. and we are still receiving bills from all kinds of people... Lots of fun when you are in a NICU in another state. We had to buy a good bit of Neosure after our girls came home. I hope everything gets worked out for you and maybe your pedi can help as others have stated. I've heard a few people say on different threads that formula manufacturers will send you free formula. Don't know it first hand but it never hurts to try!

I so feel your pain. We are on WIC and we had to fight tooth and nail to get the Alimentum. They only wanted to cover a portion of it because it wasn't the "normal" formula meaning Nestle Good Start that they were approved for. They reminded me that they are only there to supplement and not cover the whole amount. So I know how it feels when you have to shell out $27 a can and they go through it in 2-3 days.

We save every drop and try to stretch it as much as possible. Now that were transitioning to soy milk we can stretch it a bit more. I know they are there to help but with so many people taken advantage of the programs it leaves people like us who really need it in the gutter.

Medical Bills? Don't even get me started............

Lots of hugs--- I hope all the medical stuff gets sorted out.

On formula---can your PEDI give you some samples? Have you contacted the websites? I got 'coupons' for about 6 months for Alimentum and 'regular' formula for our DDs once I was on mailing lists from the manufactors.

Our PEDI also gave us samples when we needed it, esp of Alimentuim since it is soooo much $- just ask!!

    Hope things work out soon!
