I woke up arounf 5:30 this morning with the worst cramp I have ever had. My right leg from the knee down was rock hard, and the cramp would not go away. I couldn't reach it to rub it or anything and I couldn't move it to get up. My husband said that leg cramps can be due to a lack of calcium but he laughed saying it cause he knows I am guzzling milk like there's no tomorrow.

Any tips on how to prevent leg cramps or at least how to relieve them? I don't ever want to lie there through that again :(

 I remember those leg cramps! Ouch!!!

If I remember correctly, bananas! Eating bananas should help. Must be potassium.

DH would massage my hurting leg. I think there is actually a method. GOogle and you may find it. Article

I found when you are stretchig or moving around if you try not to point your toes it really helps, also right when you feel a leg cramp coming on if you flex your toes it heads it off...does that make sense?
I think Jackie is right, potassium supposedly helps.
    Good luck!! those suck!

Taking a supplement with calcium, magnesium and potassium will help with the cramps and help to deter contractions from starting.

Flexing your toes is definitely important to relieve cramps.

I had this too and while I also guzzled milk by the gallon, I started taking the calcium/magnesium supplement in the Dr. Luke book 1 before bed and 1 in the morning. Not only did it help with the leg cramps but it also helped with the horrible heartburn. :good:

I will have to stock up on bananas! I can't take a magnesium supplement because I have an auto-immune disorder and was councilled by the special pregnancy doctors not to take any additional magnesium.

    Thanks for the ideas :)

I had to take an iron supplement while pregnant for unrelated reasons. Well after I started taking the iron supplement, my aching legs and cramps and restless leg syndrome all went away. It wasn't until I was at home with newborn twins and read an article in Parenting magazine that I connected the dots...they recommended iron for that very thing. May be worth mentioning to your doctor.

I've been taking an iron supplement since about 25 weeks. I've never heard that one before.

Another good sourcce of potassium is dried apricots. They are an easy thing to keep around. I eat those and bananas and haven't had too many like my last pregnancy.

I ate like 2 bananas through out my pregnancy. And I never had 1 cramp. Eat banana and drink 1.5 gallons of water.banana is also so good nutrition for the babies!
