Anyone else who has kids that just play with their food or talk during meals. Our kids have some meals where they will eat everything and ask for more. Other times, I find myself throwing away whole plates of food. Any suggestions? Do I just wait for them to eat when they are hungry??

Mine do this too. I find that they make it up at the next meal. It's often dinner that they skip because I won't cook a second meal for them. Then the next morning they eat 4-6 bowls of cereal each. :icon_eek:
To avoid wasting alot of food, dish up servings based on their general like or dislike of the meal. Normally serving for something they generally like. Tiny servings of what they generall don't like.

Mine did this at breakfast this morning. I'm hoping they eat a better lunch. Sometimes I think they just aren't as hungry as they are at other times. My oldest DD does this too.

Oh yeah - ours do this all of the time. They also make it up at the next meal mostly or if it's lunch they won't eat then they'll ask for snacks all afternoon. Since we have skinny minnies I tend to let them snack after their naps but nothing to ruin their appetites for dinner. I know the feeling about tossing entire plates of food and it's frustrating but I know our neighbor goes through this with her kids too so I think it's totally normal :)

mine do that too and make up for it the next meal...usually its breakfast - they're like me and not crazy about breakfast so they generally have a large lunch and dinner

My pedi said to look at their food intake on a weekly basis not a daily basis. It helps to see that they really are eating ok. Sorry about the wasted food, that happens here sometimes too! Unfortunately, it is not predictable so I can't really control the serving size too much. What they loved last week they might not soo much this week but then next week they will be asking for seconds!
