I am not quite sure what to do here. I put my girls to bed at 8:30pm so that they can get up at 6:15am to get ready for school and almost every night they stay awake in their beds until 9:30 or 10:30. They still take a nap in the afternoon and I have considered stopping the nap to get them to sleep but I don't want to b/c when they start K in the fall they will have to take a nap at school.

I would stop the nap if u want them to go to sleep earlier. I think at school if they don't nap they would just give them quiet time. Just wanted to add u are so lucky they have napped this long mine stopped at 2 1/2 lol

    Stop the nap.

At school, they will probably just have to lay-down for about 30 mins (kids in our all-day just do this). They probably won't be getting the nice nap like they do at home.

They use the word "nap" in all day K but they really mean the 30 min quiet time Marissa mentioned. Kindergarteners that nap are rare so I'm sure the teachers will understand if your's don't nap. I'd let the nap go now to preserve an appropriate bedtime.

I agree with everyone else. I would stop the nap. Also, when my kids were in pre-k, they had to take a nap there. They stopped napping at home by 3/3.5, but continued to nap at school until they were 5. I think school was more tiring than home, so on days they had school, they were still tired enough to fall asleep at 8:00. They do not nap at their full day K and are ready to sleep by 7:30 most nights.

I totally agree with the other gals. Sounds like they are getting their 'quota' of sleep with the nap and the later bedtime. Do you find they get up easily in the am?

Wow, I have to say I am really surprised that there is a nap or quiet or rest time in K. We have all day K here but there is not rest time or anything.

If you want them to go to sleep earlier I would drop the nap. I have to do that with my DD last year when she was 3 and it did the trick. :good:

Thanks everyone. I think we will probably be getting rid of naps real soon.

Yes they do get up easily, and on the weekends when we let them stay up later they still wake me up by 7am.
