Do your kids remember totally random stuff from a long time ago?

Yesterday out of the blue the kids started talking about a time last summer (like maybe June?) when we were at the park, sitting by the slide, and I let them have a tiny sip of my iced coffee, and when it was all gone there was only ice in the cup. They've talked about other stuff from all the way back in the summer too, like DH bringing home blueberries from a trip to Vermont.

It always amazes me how much they remember - and not big stuff, but little mundane stuff. I mean, they have a 30 second attention span sometimes, but 8 months ago is like yesterday. Do your kids do this too?

Yes!!! Especially Meara. And it usually takes me a few minutes to realize what she is talking about because she brings it up like we were JUST there. "And when I was riding the horse Mouse, and mommy you got us cookies." WHAT?! Oh right, October when we went to the pumpkin patch...

It blows my mind! I swear if Ava started talking about the day they were born I would not be surprised! I am amazed everyday with things they say and remember! Sometimes it takes me a while to remember what they are talking about!

Yes! My two have been doing this too for a while. I think it's amazing how they remember things like that! And better then me.

Mine don't do from that far back, but they do bring up random things. The other morning we were walking from their bedroom to the living room. And DS pointed up at one of the boxes for the house alarm. And started talking about the "loud noise."
A month or so ago I accidentally set off the alarm letting the dog out. It scared the crap out all of us and they still remember it!

My girls do the same thing! It is definitely crazy how much their little minds can remember!

Yes, I am always surprised by some of the stuff they can remember. Sometimes I really have to sit back and think to figure out when they are talking about.

Mine do it too! I'm always surprised at what they can remember & in how much detail they remember about things.

Nadia does this -- she has an amazing memory -- but I haven't noticed it as much with K&K yet. I remember her third Christmas, when she wasn't quite 3, she started talking about apples in the silver bowl....because the previous Christmas, I had put apples out on the table in a silver bowl.

How she remembered that from when she was 23 months, yet hadn't seen or thought about it in a year, is beyond me!

Tom does this more than Jack, and I am very curious about whether it's their relative language skills or some quirk of personality at work.

Recently the stuff that comes up is about our Thanksgiving trip to see my sister. They painted a road for Uncle Rich's truck to drive on, and a garage for him. They mentioned Mommy "driving on the grass" (we did a little bit of unintentional offroading on the trip up). And they make up all kinds of things about their older cousins. We don't talk about any of these things (especially the offroading) but those thoughts are all in there being arranged and rearranged all the time.

Yes, mine do this too, although Lauren more than Emma. I remember the first time she did I was totally surprised but super excited that they started really remembering stuff. They amaze me all the time!!

Same here. It is amazing! However with Mattie, everything happened "last year"

Mine so do this! Lately they've been saying "remember when I was two, X happened". I guess everything happened when they were two, in their mind. :)

Mine also refer back to "when I was two" a lot. I think it was a short enough time ago that they have really good memories of it, but to them it is also a reference point for when they were little. Now that they're three, they seem to think they're all grown up. :)

They also pull random memories from long ago out of thin air sometimes.

Nicholas is big into the memories! I love it! LOL! They graduated from speech in November. So-to think just over six months ago-they were barely talking!

We were passing by a random farm today. Nicholas said, "Tractor. Daddy ride tractor on farm. Apples. Nini apples tree." So-essentially he was saying that daddy rode the tractor and we went and picked apples. And then he said how Anthony did it and Annabella... It was really cute! I LOVE how he forms his sentences too!

He'll also whenever he sees a bee(in a book), point to his ear and go, "BEE! Ear!" And I'll say there was a bee near his ear. And he'll say, "Ma!" and then swat at his ear. Over the summer-there was a bee near his ear and my mom swatted it away. He's too funny!
