What do you do for your kids when they are sick, now that most kids meds have been taken off store shelves? My son is sick and so far I have just rubbed Vicks Vapor Rub on his feet. What else can I do for him?

it depends on the symptoms and how badly it's bothering my little ones.
I have a few prescriptions for severe symptoms, also, I like the vapor plug ins really well.

Sitting in a really steamed up bathroom can help a lot with congestion.. Also a humidifier in the bedroom..

I agree that a humidifier seems to help. The Johnson's vapor bath seems to help when mine are really congested also.

Don't flame me, but I asked the pharmicist and he said you could still use the cold meds for the little ones. They weren't pulled b/c they were killing kids, they were pulled b/c the parents were OD'ing their kids. He instructed me on the correct way to give meds to my girls and let me decide if I felt comfortable with that. I did and gave some OTC meds to my girls for a few nights so they could sleep better.

I know that usually cold meds don't do much, but it did clear up their noses and they could breathe to sleep.

Lots of fluids and warm shower steam help a lot. I also put them in the warm bath and let them play for awhile. That tends to help them feel better and they'll nap for a long time after that.

The humidifier works great for us. I also get these Hyland's C Plus Cold Tablets & those seem to help as well. Saline drops.....extra oranges.

    And also some Motrin.

If they're coughing really badly- you can give them a tsp of honey. (I'm assuming you're talking about your 2 y/o.) And I agree w/ the PP- if it's REALLY bad, you can still give them OTC meds. I believe Dr. Sears has dosing information on his site somewhere. You may need to google it, but I know I've found it online before. And I'll also second the cool mist humidifier and those vapor plug ins!! The plug ins seem to really help my boys. Good luck- I hope he feels better ASAP!

I make them honey and lemon tea. Just squeeze some lemon juice and pour a table spoon of honey into a cup of hot water. My kids love the taste and ask for their "cold medicine" even when they aren't sick. The lemon gives them vitamin C, the honey soothes their throats, the warm liquid helps unclog their sinuses and it keeps them hydrated.

We don't have otc cold medicines in this part of the world so it's not an option. In addition to vaporisers and vicks if they have a stuffed nose we use saline to unclog it and that seems to help them breath much better.
Hope your boy feels better soon.
