Let me start by saying I love Keds and the cute shoes they offer. My 2 older Dds have been wearing them for years. So when I saw an adorable pair on sale for $8.50 (usually $30.00) in size 5 which DD is about to go into, I had to buy them. The sole seems stiff and DD usually wears Pedipeds or the Circo from Target with grips that are totally flexible and go up to a size 5, I believe.

Anyway, I just tried the Keds on DD and they fit great. But when I put her on the floor to test them out, she proceeded to walk around like Frankenstein. She was excited about them but I had to take them off after 10 minutes of the clod-hopping. They just seemed so heavy and she was literally dragging her feet and walking slow. :unknw:

Has anyone had this happen with a new brand of shoes and the child has gotten used to it?

I put the shoes back in the box and am thinking of buying more Pedipeds or the Circo shoes. She is now walking normal in a different pair.

This happens with my girls every time we start with a new kind of shoe, especially as we were phasing out robeez, which must have just felt like socks to them. I think it feels funny so they clomp around until they get used to them. You should have seen the first time in boots! I would keep trying - and give her enough time to forget she's wearing them. I absolutely love my girls in keds.

    Best,
    Mia

It sounds like it is just something she has to get used to.

Sorry, but I think they're too stiff. I looked at Keds shoes for my boys because they make narrow sizes but I couldn't bend them with one hand and so at the store they stayed. They really shouldn't walk like they have cement blocks on their feet even in new shoes. Converse makes some decent kids' canvas sneakers and they're also cute.

Yes, I think they are too stiff after seeing her in action- or not in action- LOL.

DS has Converse and likes those and does well. I just wanted something more feminine for DD. She does so great with the Pedipeds so I may buy more of those. She is not very rough on shoes so I think I may stick with them for a while.

DS has some Stride Rites and to me they are stiff as well. However, he seems fine with them. I think as PP stated, she is used to the flexibility.

My oldest wore mostly keds and I agree they are so cute! Both my twins are in PT and their therapist said that they should be in flexible soled shoes. I figure once my kiddos are 2 or 2.5 I will put them in regular soled shoes.

We have never had any issues and DD has a pair right now.
