OK, so this is embarrassing, but I need help figuring out how to do kabobs for DD1's preschool snack. [IMG] Silly me - I let her pick what she wanted to bring off of their snack list- I should have stuck with a plain old cheese stick!! A regular kabob skewer just seems like so much snack for a 5 yr old to me - wondering what you guys think. Is it just me or is that too much? I think they only have about 15 minutes for snack in their schedule, and I assume that includes passing out & clean up. Would you cut them in half or use a whole one? Or use maybe two toothpicks? or snack size baggies and scrap the kabobs? I know I'm way overthinking this...

    but H E L P. TIA!!

Personally I wou ldn't want a large group of young kids with kabob sticks!

I think I would scrap the kabobs and go for individual baggies or something more simple.

If you don't mind actually using the sticks -- and, I think 5-year-olds should be fine with them -- then I probably wouldn't do *real* grilled-type kabobs. Instead, I'd put cubes of ham, grape tomatoes, cut-up string cheese or any cubed cheese, pieces of veggies such as peppers, cucumbers, etc.

I think that would be a fun snack, and not too heavy!

Could you use a pretzel log as "the stick" instead of regular stick if you didn't want to use toothpicks or skewer? Placing things like cubed cheese, cucumber etc. with ranch dip maybe?

Here was one idea I found doing a search of "kabobs for kids snacks"

I like the pretzel stick idea.

I would just put pieces of watermelon, pineapple and maybe strawberries on it (given that there are no allergies to any of those). You could add yogurt for dipping if you wanted.

Wouldn't the pretzel get soggy? I would use half a grill stick and put fruit and cheese on it. Sounds fun!

Thanks everyone! I should have mentioned what I was putting on them [IMG] I was thinking of cheese cubes, blueberries, grapes & grape tomatoes. I think I will add either peppers or mushrooms too. I'm worried watermelon juice might make the cheese yucky by snack time (?) possibly. I know that they have to sit and be served and then raise their hand to be excused, so I'm not really concerned about using the skewers. The teacher is pretty strict - I'm kind of scared of her myself [IMG] - so I'm pretty sure they won't be messing around with them.

I'd scrap the blueberries, they're too small.

    What about:

    mozzarella cheese cube
    grape tomato
    pepperoni
    ham
    pepperoni
    grape tomato
    mozzarella cheese cube

    mini pizza kabobs!

What about using a popsicle stick? IT is flat and fat but less sharp than a kabob stick.

They make a skewer for "city chicken" or "mock chicken leg" that are shorter (maybe 4-5 inches long) and a bit thicker. I've seen them in the grocery store. I think it sounds like a fun snack!!
