Sorry, can you tell I am working on having it ready just in case? Okay so I have the diaper bag almost packed with just the basics and my bag with just the basics.. then I started to think "why take both?" I really won't need a diaper bag for a while even after the twins are here.. not really planning on being out of the house.. So my question is, is it okay to take one? Or I am running the risk of not having enough room to "empty" out the hospital with all those goodies? I am not taking a suitcase. I am taking my large ADIDAS bag.. any thoughts? Am I obsessing?? Sorry!

I have never taken a diaper bag to the hospital when I went for any of mine. You can take one, but you know they supply everything. But you can take whatever you want. I always just took a going home outfit for them and a bag of stuff for me.

    Hey JasonsMommy,

I'm totally with you on two verus' one bag. DH and I opt'd for 1 bag because I'm taking my comfy pillow and breast pump bag so that's two more things we're carrying. I'm also using a duffle type bag, and put the "twins boys" stuff in my bag. I was of the same mind set as you that the boys will not be leaving the house the first couple of weeks (weather/flu season) and I really won't need a diaper bag yet. So I got a two lingerie bags and put all the baby stuff inside them. I did one lingerie bag of outfits/hats/mittens/socks/pacifiers and the other with breastfeeding stuff/diapers/odd's and ends' recommened to bring for the babies.

To be honest I packed my stuff like I was doing a carry on for a plane. I got a gallon size zip lock baggy and got 3 oz size sample size portions of stuff (shampoo/soap/hair spray...etc) sample size of TP wipes, and a small brush. I also went to my makeup counter at the mall and asked them for samples (mascara, eye shadow) of the makeup I normally use or close to it so I can freshen up if needed without having to pack all my real stuff (I don't know if I'll be putting on makeup but I wanted it "just in case"). I do have to say the department store and Sephora were super cool about it and even gave me extra stuff to play with once the babies are born.

DH packed his bag the same way, he decided to use a backpack to keep his hands free, he basically did the same thing as me except he packed more clothes then me and thanks to a earlier trip to L&D he packed a sweatshirt and extra thick socks (the room was really cold).

DH and I tried to keep my stuff to a minimum and my bag as light as possible, because we know we'll be leaving with more then we came in with :D :D

    Hope this helps...

All you really need is one bag. Your little ones will have everything they need already at the hospital. You just need an outfit to put on them on the ride home.

I took one bag, but just an added note, my hospital had a backpack in the room for me. I was able to fill that with all the goodies. My DH left the hospital during my stay, so he would just take stuff that I didnt need.

I was curious myself about taking my breast pump. If you have to pump at the hospital, do they normally provide a pump or is that something you have to bring from home?

Not sure about the pump situation.. but I didn't think you pumped until your milk came in after 4 to 5 days. Are you having a Csection and plannning on being there long enough to pump, or am I wrong about when you start pumping? Just wondering myself!

Ohhhh yeah, and does the hospital supply burp rags? ALSO NOTE: I already re-packed and am soooooo in love with the one bag now, plus I still have tons of room.. thanks again ladies!

    hi jentwinmom -

good question about breastpump at hospital, I thought pumping is not suggested for the first 4-6 weeks? apparently if you give them bottles/pacifiers in those early weeks, babies might get confused between nipples and bottles and not breastfeed that well.
but that's kind of controversal with the info that when you have preemies and they can't physically take your breast, you still want to give them breastmilk and pump for that so they can feed babies with that milk.

but I am curious too if hospital provides hospital pumps in case you really have to pump that early...I know you can rent from them too, usually.

ah it's confusing, I'll definetely will take a prenatal breastfeeding class to get some helpful infos beforehand.

    good luck!

I was surprised by how little I needed for the babies, the hospital supplied everything. Diapers, wipes, recieving blankets, stuff to bathe them, vasaline, hats, shirts. DH did bring the diaper bag after I was there a couple days but we never really needed it. The only thing you really need to bring is their outfits to go home in. Oh and to answer the breastpump question yes the hospital should definitely have pumps. My milk didn't come in until I got home but there were a couple times that I couldn't get the babies to latch and I supplimented them but the nurses had me pump whenever I missed a feeding. I would only get a couple drops of colostrum but they would give it to the babies if they had them in the nursery at night.

I was asking in case my girls have go to NICU. The NICU is not at the same hospital where I will give birth, so I would think pumping would be my only choice.
