had an ffn at 28 weeks due to shortening cervix. it came back neg. had a follow up ffn at 30 weeks and it was pos. my dr sent me to the hospital for the first steroid shot. i get the second one tomorrow. my dr stressed that a pos ffn is not as predictive of ptl in the next 2 weeks as a neg is of not having ptl in the next 2 weeks. but i am starting to feel nervous. i want these babies to keep cooking. anyone have a pos ffn and hold out for 4 weeks or more? i want to get to 34 weeks so badly. thanks.

I don't have any advice, I had a ffn at 30 weeks and it was negative, but they also said that positives are not that great of predictors. I'm glad your dr. did the steriod shots.

I have a friend who had her twins at 29 weeks (water broke one evening) and she obviously never had the steroid shots and her twins were in the NICU for 5-6 weeks but were never on anything but CPAP (and that was only for a few days right at first), but the end of their first week, they were breathing room air, had no medical problems and were just in the NICU as growers/feeders.

Hang in there....you can do it!

No advice about the pos ffn, but just wanted to say that I am glad you got the steroid shots. I truly believe they helped my two not have any major difficulties. My two were born very early, see siggy, and Emilie was only on a vent for 4 days and Trevor NEVER went on one. Neither one of them ever had an lung or breathing problems at all. I truly truly believe this is because I got the steroid shots. So they will help.

I didn't have a FFN, but I did get the steroid shots and they really did the trick. Our babies had no respiratory issues whatsoever despite being in NICU for 3 wks since they were such tiny chicklets.

I was on hospital bedrest for preterm labor when I was preggo with DD1, and she ended up being born late -- and I was induced!! So there's a good chance you'll be just fine! :hug99:

I am sorry to hear about that test result. I know how frightening it can be, even when the doctors reassure you that the results are not a clear indicator of things to come. I had a pos fFN test at 28 weeks, but I went on to deliver at 34 weeks. I too got the shots at 28 weeks, after the results came back positive. My kids, despite being born early, needed no NICU time. So keep your chin up and hope for the possible.
