Hi! I just wanted to say "hi" to everyone and introduce myself. I am 16 weeks along and mu husband and I just found out we are having twins! We are so excited... This will be the first set of twins on his side of the family, but definitely NOT for mine (on both my mom's and dad's side twins run in the family)! We had our first ultrasound yesterday (the doctor thought I was too big so she wanted to check it out!) and the doctor found 2 babies in there! We find out what they are on June 10.. If anyone has any advice as far as what to expect or anything as far as pregnancy & delivery, what to buy, etc. it would be appreciated! This is my 1st pregnancy and I'm a little bit nervous! Well that's about all I can think of for now! Thanks! If you want to know anything else feel free to ask!

Thanks for welcoming me! I'm really excited to be expecting especially twins! Pamallhoney,I agree it was nice to get through the first trimester without being freaked out.. I was scared enough about 1! I was sooooo sick (couldn't even keep water down) and scared that I was starving the one baby I couldn't imagine how I would have felt knowing there were 2! :thanks:

Congrats and welcome! Oh, I remember that morning sickness. Well morning, noon and night sickness. Hope you're feeling better now, and that twin shock is subsiding.

Hope you'll like it here at TS, there are a lot of wonderful MoMs, and no matter what you're going through, someone here will have BTDT.

And you're lucky your twins are the first, as mine are. Pregnancy and newborns were pretty good for us, but it is nice to be able to focus on your twins and not have older babes to worry about too. Moms with older kids are my heros!

As great as TS is for all your questions, consider joining your local twin club too. Real life, local support is also really important. They'll know who the best docs are, and will have sales where you can get hooked up with the best twin stuff for cheap.

    :welcome:

Welcome and CONGRATULATIONS! Wow! 16 weeks? Crazy! By that time I was already huge and having back pains!!! Having twins can be scary at first, but just to reassure you it isnt as hard as you think! It is truly a wonderful experience! The pregnancy not so much but having them is truly amazing! Welcome to the club! :give_rose:

Congrats on the news!! It's so so exciting.

I found out early it was twins so instantly I wanted to know everything I could about it and ended worrying that much longer! Hehe

One thing I am noticing with twins compared to my friends who have singletons is that I am WAY more exhausted and tired by mid day and the weight is taxing. I suggest rest as often as possible. Let your hubby know you love him have him help as much as possible when you are both home.

Thanks everyone! We are really looking forward to it!
JennyBean- I didn't know that there was a way to tell? We don't see the multiple specialist until the 10th of June, that's also when we will find out what we are having! I can't wait!!
Chrijodo- I actually just checked that book out from the library! It's good to know that it's helpful! Thanks!
Gena22- Yes the morning sickness was all day and night... oy! I couldn't even keep water down! Man, it stunk! I could not even begin to imagine having older kids too! I am exhausted all the time.. Those women are amazing! As for a local twin club unfortunately the closest one to me is 4 hours away.. That's a little too far for me! I live in the middle of nowhere!
LuvMyTwins, We had kind of a crappy doctor at first (even though she's supposedly the BEST.EVER.) that we were traveling over an hour to see. She didn't take any of my concerns about getting big too fast seriously telling me it was "all in my head" at my 12 week appt I have been in maternity clothes since I was about 10 weeks along... she told me that the chances of me having twins even though it runs on BOTH sides of my family was slim considering I didn't do any treatments.. we switched doctors to a local family practice doctor and she was suspicious right off the bat and she said she couldn't believe that the other one didn't catch it! I am huge and it seems like I get bigger every day!
To everyone else thanks for the advice! I really appreciate it! I have been reading some of the older posts and it seems like a wonderful community that I'm so excited to be a part of! :bump:

CONGRATS! I was 21wks when we found out about our twins! :)

As for the identical/fraternal question, the only way to know for sure that they are NOT identical is if you have boy/girl. If they are both same gender and have separate placentas you won't know til either a)birth and they look totally different, or b)dna testing.

Then there is the case of Monochorionic/Diamniotic (one placenta, two sacs)-that is what ours were or Monochorionic/monoamniotic (one placenta/one sac) - this would mean they are identical. (sometimes tho two placentas can fuse, so it 'looks' like one). Confused yet? LOL

There are SOOOOOOO many different situations that you'll get more info like you said when you go to the specialist.
