Hi everyone! I'm a newbie here and certainly never thought I'd be on these boards.

We went in for an ultrasound today to date my pregnancy since I have very long, irregular cycles and had only had one post partum period before getting pregnant. They saw 2 babies and two heartbeats today and we're in total shock! We were not using any sort of fertility drugs and were not really even trying to get pregnant, just not preventing.

We have a 12 month old baby girl so this will be a huge adjustment for our family.

I'm so nervous about vanishing twin syndrome - I hear that the chances of that happening are really high and am not sure how to find out if it happens before my first OB appointment at 12 weeks.

Baby A was measuring 6w5d and Baby B was measuring 6w3d.

Ahhh!!!! I'm glad this community is here, I sure need the support!

I know its difficult not to worry about the twins, esp during the first trimester, but try and enjoy the pregnancy! I'm sure you'll get all the support and advice you need in this forum, cos it's filled to the brim with experienced twin mommies or twin mommies who are going through the same experience as you!

Congratulations!! You sound like me, never in my wildest dreams did the thought of twins enter my mind--but sure enough. This is such a great site and you are sure to find loads of great advice. Check out the Big Sis Program, you might find that really helpful during your pregnancy.

More shocks! I was looking today at other twin ultrasound pictures and in ours we only have what looks like one gestational sac (one big black area?) with two yolk sacs and fetal poles. Does this mean they're identical???

Congratulations! Both of your babies sound so healthy that I wouldn't worry too much. In any case there isn't anything you can do to prevent it IF it is going to happen. Take care of yourself and enjoy your time with your dd!

Congratulations and welcome to twinstuff!! Your u/s picture sounds like mine at 6 weeks 1 day. There was one big black hole with 2 babies and mine are ID. I would say yours are, too. It's easiest to tell at this early stage because once they start to grow they fill up that empty hole with baby! Congrats again and keep us updated on your pg!! :)

Congratulations!!! I'm a newbie here too. It's really hard not to worry, but try to think positive thoughts! Just like you, our twins were a huge shocker.....we were not trying, but not preventing either. No family history or fertility here. I found out at my 12 week appointment.....just a few days ago too. Try not to worry & just enjoy this new experience!!

Congratulations and welcome to TS! If you already saw heartbeats at the u/s, then your chances of vanishing twin go down.
