just found out Im having twins

I am a second time mom, first time pregnant with twins. I had no idea twins ran in my family. I am 20, married to a soldier, our first son is 2, and the twin thing was quite a shock. We'd been planning to get pregnant and had been trying for what seemed like forever, then two show up! They are fraternal and seem healthy and fine as far as we know. Army hospitals aren't that great though. I hope to be transfered to a civilian hospital, cause I trust them more. I'd like to just introduce myself and get to know some of you. I know absoultly no one who has twins. This is scary for me. Anyone have tips on buying stuff for twins? Cant afford to spend a butt load. Anyway, nice to be a part of this website.

:welcome: So happy to meet you. Start buying now! Buy one package of diapers a week until you have the babies, I would suggest looking on Freecycle or Craigslist. I got lots of stuff from tag sales too. I have two of everything, and I would recommend it for all twin moms. Good luck I am so happy for you. Feel free to PM me with any questions. How far along are you? Do you know what you are having?

 

Having twins is quit shocking. I used the same crib for both babies until the were 5 months.
The play stationary saucers were a life saver as soon as they could hoild up their heads I put them in it with pillows around them. They really enjoyed that

In early Spring (March or April) your local twins club may have a member's garage sale that will have lots of great items at low prices. I buy pretty much everything for our kids at those sales and save tons of money.

 

Congratulations and Welcome. I am still a little in shock. I am 16 weeks along and am finally wrapping my head around it. I would try to buy used and take any hand me downs offered. If you need to talk to some one who is still new to all of this feel free to PM me. Where are you stationed and what is your husband's job in the military? My husband ETSed the week before our wedding.

Congrats and welcome! I'm being seen at an army hospital as well, and it's no picnic, so I totally understand you there...

 

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! and :welcome: to the TS family!!! I used IVF to get pregnant so I knew multiples was a possibility, the day I found out I was still in a bit of shock! but oh my goodness!!! this has been the sweetest thing!!! I also buy a lot of their stuff at our twins club sale - I save a ton and also I can get matching outfits (because I am obsessed with having them match!) buying diapers now is also a great idea! I bought things here and there while I was pregnant and also my family threw me a huge shower which helped ALOT!! Now is also a good time to buy summer clothes - most places have them on clearance . TS also has a shopping forum you may want to check out! Do you know the sexes yet?

 

Welcome....all I have to say is get adopted by the big sister program on this forum. It has helped me tremendously! I was in shock when I found out and had a lot of questions. Now that I have been able to speak with an experienced Mom about all the stuff that you wish you could ask, my mental stability is much better. I am actually excited about our babies.

I agree with the PP to buy 1 package of diapers a week. And stock up (if you can) when they have sales and you have coupons. Companies give out free stuff to families with multiples, so you'll need to contact them. There must be a list out here somewhere of how to contact them - my list has long been thrown away.

I do disagree a little with the comment to buy 2 of everything. One of my boys doesn't like the swing. I'm glad I borrowed the 2nd one as it sits unused in our basement. But try to borrow as much as you can.

Also, when the babies are born, I don't know if you go to church or anything, but my church and my job brought over a lot of meals for us. Basically, I got meals 5 nights a week for the entire month of June. I also had lots of leftovers that we froze. That saved us a ton of time, money (on grocery bills), we got decent meals, and we had a little sanity then.

 

congrats! im an army wife and i agree with the military hospitals not being so great. i hate ours! i got ALOT of our stuff on craigslist or on sale. both cribs for $50/each at walmart, carseats used from craigslist for $60 total, snap n go for $60 off craigslist. if you start now you may find everything you need by the time theyre born! lol. also if theres a moms of multiples group try them, we dont have one here.

Definitely find your local Moms of Multiples or Parents of Multiples group. They usually have a big sale in the fall and spring and it's a great place to find the items you'll need for way way way less and usually gently used. Also, garage sale, garage sale, garage sale. Familiarize yourself with the brands and items that will work best for twins (you can ask all those questions here too) and start looking early.
