I guess I just didn't realize that they would have such a hard time with the shots so I thought I'd warn other new mommies. I did read a post about giving them tylenol so luckily I did that. First of all, the actuall injection was a very hard thing to sit through. My girls (like many of you) had IV's, blood draws, heel pricks etc. for days in the NICU but they didn't have these cries yet. It was yucky to hear them but they were both done crying within minutes. I did nurse immediately after for comfort.

When we got home they slept a long time...like 4 hours. I ended up waking them because I was worried. G, did fine, she ate and went back to sleep. L on the other hand, screamed for an hour straight and refused to eat. I ended up getting into the bathtub with her and she calmed down and slept on my chest in their for an hour. She still didn't eat for a few hours. We called the ped and they advised coming in if she didn't eat within two hours. Luckily she did but she's feeling miserable and has a fever of 99.8 that hasn't gone down, even with repeated doses of tylenol.

Any thoughts on how long this lasts? I feel so sad for her. She's normally my spunky one. Poor thing.

My boys had their shots on Thursday - and I'd say they are finally back to "normal" this morning -- so about 48 hours later. Only one of my boys (Thomas - also my spunky one!) took the shots badly - about the same as your LO. He continued with a fever just beyond 24 hours - and was eating normally for nightime last night.

I'm so sorry you had a rough time. :hug99: I broke down sobbing at their 2 mo. appt. when they got shots.

Not sure about how long it will take for them to feel better. My girls only get a little sleepy for a few hours after their shots and then they are fine.

I took my babies a few days to recover. The 4 and 6 month shots were much better and less time recovery for them to get back to themselves.

Breaks your heart to know your doing something that they need, but hate to see them cry.

Think of how bad they would be screaming if they got one of the diseases you are having them vacinated for.

My DS and DD reacted the same way but no fever. We came home from the ped and they woke up from their care seats immediately and an hour later they just started crying like they were in pain. My two older children did not have this reaction so I was really alarmed. I called my husband home froma social/work dinner and they calmed down after 2 hours of crying really loud - we gave them some Tylenol and they finally ate and then slept like they normally did through the day. The next day they were mildly fussy and the following day completely normal.

On a positive note, they just got their 4 month shots and I was really nervous how they would react - they were fine!! They were only mildly fussy the next day and that was only my DD. Hope your twins start to feel better.

We just got our shots too and my DD was worrying me really badly last night with a temp of 100.4. Both of mine slept pretty well after the shots when we got home. Just today they were fussy but I dont know if it is related to the shots.

Shots really do affect some kids terribly. My oldest was much more affected by them than my twins. Tylenol helps but I always found a bottle right away worked better. And lots of hugs. I hope they feel better. :hug99:

We never had problems, with none of my kids, so it really really depends. A fever of less than 100 is hardly a fever, however it's sad when they feel miserable, fever or no fever. They should feel better soon. Just make sure they'll get their sleep, put them down a little earlier if necessary and it's quite likely the 4 and 6 months will go better (basically same shots).

After Cody got his 2 month shots (all 4 of them) he stopped crying imediately & only needed 1 dose of tylenol. The only problem we have is that he has spit up after every botle since getting those shots.
He did get them a month late so I don't know if that matters.
