I know a lot of pediatricians now don't recommend juice at all, but my girls' doctor isn't against it. I don't give it to them often at all-once or twice a week usually. I've started putting it in sippy cups and they are learning the ropes.

How much juice do you give? How often? How much do you dilute it? What kind of juice.

My girls absolutely love white grape juice. The only other we've tried was apple juice, two times several weeks apart and both times we had horrible experiences. It gave them horrible gas. I don't plan to give it to them again until they are at least a year old. What a horrible experience!!! Anyhow, I give them 2 oz juice and 2 oz water only a couple times a week. I don't think it will hurt them.... they love it and I like making them happy.

What is your take on the whole juice idea? Thanks!

I didn't give the twins juice until they were about 20 months old and with Liam it happened closer to 15 months just because he picked up his siblings juice. I just didn't see the need. I gave them formula and started with water in a sippy cup at about 7 months old.

I still dilute the juice 50/50 for all three of them (unless they are having a juice box). The twins are 4 1/2 and Liam is 2 1/2.

I gave it to my older kids in a sippy, around the last 1/3 of the FY. I waited until 18 months or so with the twins, as I just didn't find it necessary. I still water it down, and they only get a cup every other day on average. I use the 100% juice frozen concentrates and double the water.

I didn't give it to L&L at all in the first year, but I did give it to the older kids starting around 10 months. L&L still don't drink much juice now, maybe a cup every few days & I still water it down by half.

I give my girls juice once a week and water the rest of the week. I give them 1 ounce of juice to 3 ounces of water, so it's pretty much watered down, but they still get a hint of sweetness. I use the 4 oz organic juice bottles that come in a pack of 4. HTH!

We just went to the pediatrician yesterday for our boys' 4 month check up, and because they've been having really bad constipation as a result of the Enfamil A.R. (added rice starch) formula we've been given them for reflux she recommended we give them a little bit of prune juice diluted 50/50 with water. I forgot to ask how much and how often though. I just went home on my lunch break and gave one of my boys a mix of 1 oz prune juice and 1 oz of water and he sucked it down....I'm hoping it helps with his constipation, but don't want any negative side effects. For those that waited until their babies were older, do you know of any potential negative side effects of giving 1 oz of prune juice daily to a 4 month old? Should we only do every other day?

vtlakey...when we used prune juice for constipation usually just the one bottle would do the trick to get them back on track:)

I don't give the boys juice either unless we are short on fruit. I just don't see it as necessary bc they eat so much fruit throughout the day. I also heavily water it down, apple juice has almost no color, but they like water just as much!

Good to know! Prior to the prune juice I was putting karo syrup in their bottles and it seemed to take several bottles w/ karo to make a difference. I'll hold off on giving my boys anymore prune juice after today until they start pooping pellets again ;)

That was why we had to introduce juice as well because of constipation. When the kids do get juice, I do half juice and half water.

We don't do juice unless it's at a party and the other kids are drinking juice boxes. My kids eat their weight in fruit so I'd rather have them eat that. Actually, I'd rather them eat chicken, but that's yet another battle! :headbang:

We do plain water or a mixture of 2/3 water, 1/3 juice. The juice is mainly for constipation. We use apple or pear juice. I probably wouldn't have started juice yet if it weren't for the constipation.
