Juice in sippy cups or bottles

My LOs are having problems with constipation, so I am introducing pear juice. I am diluting it with water 50/50. I tried giving it in a sippy, but they are so messy that it ends up all over themselves and I don't think they swallow much. If I put the valves in the sippy cups, nothing comes out. I have read not to give juice in a bottle, but I really want to make sure they are drinking some of the juice. How would you give the juice?

If they cant do a sippy, then I would do it in the bottle.

In that case then yes I would use a bottle.

I thought you were asking like a whole glass/bottle of juice, I was gonna say "Negative captain", sippy cups only here! :)

Are your LO's formula fed? You can add the juice to their bottles of formula, or you can try dark karo syrup in 1 or 2 bottles of formula a day. The karo works like a charm for my oldest dd and both twins!

I would say yes, but only because of the constipation issue. I also heard about the Karo syrup, but we always used the light. Worked for us, so I am not sure what the difference is.

Talk to your ped, but my niece was getting apple juice due to constipation as well. She would make a 6 oz bottle, 3 oz of water, 3 oz of apple juice, and then the formula. Just a thought, instead of giving it straight on.

for constipation i would give it in the bottle, then at least you can tell how much is going in. that is the only time i gave juice in a bottle, now it is all sippies, but they don't even like juice..

They are breastfed, so I can't mix it with formula. I did consider putting some in their cereal, but I suppose that wouldn't be a large amount. I think they are constipated, but I'm not sure . . .

    Any constipation experts out there?

DS has dry, pellet like poop. DD's poop is a better consistency, but she often grunts and her face turns red. She has a lot of gas, which might be causing her night waking. She wakes up farting and crying several times a night. I think the gas might be caused by constipation, but I'm not sure.

We've also had success with diluted apple or prune juice in a bottle before they were able to use sippy cups. We diluted it quite a lot and still did well. It was about 1 part juice to 5 parts water. They sometimes didn't drink more than a few ounces, but it was enough.

    Good luck!

For constipation I would put it in a bottle especially since they don't get the sippy quite yet. I think when doctors say don't put it in a bottle they mean all the time don't make a habit of it...so, I think you're fine to do it. For constipation I don't dilute it, I give them 2 oz.

I was going to suggest cereal. Sometimes just a little does the trick. There are natural anti-gas drops you could try. I think at 7 mo they are old enough for a LITTLE prune juice in the cereal. IF you use apple/grape juice I would use just that in the cereal. If you use prune I would mix a little prune with water in the cereal. Im just not a fan of Juice in the bottle. But that's just me and my parenting style.

Since you are using it for constipation, I would use the bottle.

Amber if your ds isn't having trouble pooping then it just might be that's how he poops :) Constipation is more about whether they are having trouble pooping than what it looks like.

My baby girl has constipation only because she can't seem to get it out a lot of times. It's very runny when it comes out but we have to be consistent with the karo syrup or she gets stopped up, and then we have to use liquid glycerin suppositories to help her.

As for your dd the gas can definitely be caused by constipation, same thing, if she's struggling to poop then the juice or karo will probably help.

It's also safe to use suppositories if necessary, we prefer the liquid glycerin ones instead of the solid glycerin ones. My ped said to use as needed, even if it's daily. Fortunately, as I said, the karo keeps her "cleaned out" and we rarely need to use a supp.
