    Hi,

I am expecting twins with a 40 week due date of April 11, 2008. I would love to be a part of this forum. Is there anything special I should do to join it? I'm so excited too, because I just figured out how to do the ticker thing. Now I really feel like I am a part of this site.

Thanks for the welcome. I had already made a "first post" . . . I just didn't know if there was a special thing to do to join the "expecting twins" part of the forum. I see all different designations in that middle column of posts and figured that one fit me most. . . Anyway, someone asked about whether or not I was shocked when I found out that I was having twins, since I, myself, am also a twin. I was shocked because I had always heard it skips a generation. This will be the 4th set in the extended family that happened "naturally." There is one other set, but that was fertility related. Anyway, so I guess with the skip a generation thing in my head, I thought I'd be a grandmother to twins, not a mother:) I couldn't be more excited though. My twin sister and I have had our ups and downs. She has ALWAYS loved being a twin, whereas I was more of the one who needed "space" and my "own identity." It didn't help that we look alot alike (though we were always told we are fraternal, we aren't convinced though), and have the exact same voice . . . I guess that makes me wish for a boy and girl since there would be less of that. It will be very interesting to see how this experience plays out.

LADYBENZ, what do you think of what I've said about the experience of being a twin and now expecting twins??

    -Sara

:hi: Welcome to TS expecting forum! I am a twin who had twins. I am identical and it was my sister who really pulled away from being a twin... and not wanting to be similar. I had fraternal twins through IVF. WElcome and join in where you want to.. we have many different forums here including adult twins towards the bottom! Take a look around!

Sara, I think my experience was a little different because I conceived through fertility treatments, but I always (ever since I was a little girl) thought I'd have twins--though no one was more surprised than me that I needed to do fertility treatments to conceive them. The big shocker for me was that they were the same sex! In my family there are three sets of b/g twins, so I just assumed that's what we'd have. I was so suprised when I found out they were both boys!

Welcome!!! I'm also a twin...and I had twins... I too was shocked that I conceived twins. I also thought I was kind of "immune" to it...until I realized that whole bit about skipping generations is total bunk. I'm an id. twin, but there is a history of frat twins on my mother's side... (she just really lucked out by having id. twins instead!! ) I also struggled with being a twin and wanting my own identity growing up. And I too prayed for b/g twins just for something different..just so I wouldn't have to watch them go through the same painful growing up process I went through. (and also I wanted a sister for my dd1 and a ds for my dh :) ) WEll, I got what I wanted! I think God knew that in advance!! I still struggled after their birth for about six months in just not accepting the fact that I had twins...I just fought it, resisted it, until finally I realized this was the plan God had for my life for whatever reason so I might as well get over it!! The funny thing is that I have now gone on to have another child..part of my rationale for wanting a ds was so that I wouldn't feel pressured into having #4 just for the sake of having a boy...well, I'm having #4... and the really crazy part is that I could totally see myself having #5...and the really, really crazy part is that for some reason I would just love a set of b/b identical twins. I don't know what my problem is..but my opinion and feelings on twinning have changed soooooo dramatically after having my own set of twins. I feel so incredibly different about it now. In a way, I think this is really what I needed to kind of complete the whole identity struggle thing I had while growing up. I mean, I've long since been comfortable in my own skin..but this, strangely enough, has really helped me to not look back on certain memories with just painful recollection. A healing process?? I guess, God knew what I needed more than I did. Having my set of twins has changed me dramatically in many, many ways. And hopefully you'll come through the experience feeling the same way. One little tip... if you still harbor any negative feelings over conceiving twins...try to work it out now... i mean I fell in love with my twins instantly, but I still just fought the whole "why me?" thing at 3am in the morning when I was severely sleep deprived....anyway, it probably would've been easier on me if I had really hashed those feelings out more while still pg...cry about it...accept it...move on...so that you can focus on being happy over it. I'm sure some women here will think I'm horrible for admitting all of this since I should have been thrilled to peices over conceiving twins...but If I'm perfectly honest those were the emotions I had at the time. To gloss over them and make it seem rosy would be a lie. But the good news is that obviously, I feel very, very different about it now...so while the beginning is rough..it gets much, much better...and twins are a wonderful gift. (I really would love another set!)

Congratulations! Welcome to twinstuff! All I can tell you is that this is the greatest source of information and support I have found throughout my pregnancy so far! I think that as you go through your pregnancy you will find that the people here who are in the same position you are or have been there and done that are perhaps the only people who truly get the whole twin pregnancy thing! As a mom of a singleton the first time around I can tell you that this is an entirely different experience and these women have been lifesavers! Good luck on your journey!
