Hello Everyone. I'm 32wks along and had a positive fFN on Friday of last week. I was given steroid shots for lung development and I am now on bedrest. I'm not sure if I am doing this right or not. I've been sitting in my parents recliner all morning because laying down is sometimes uncomfortable.

I am wondering what some of you ladies are feeling. I am having shortness of breath, I'm hot and tired, swollen feet ankles and legs, back pain and I just feel tired and heavy. On Friday the twins measured 3lbs 14 and 3lbs 15oz. I'm not sure how fast they grow at this point but I'm assuming that they will be over 4lbs by next week.

Please share any thoughts and experiences. I'm also TOTALLY BOARD!

Hi! I've been on bedrest since the day after Christmas....with about a month of partial bedrest before that. Just constantly have contractions. was hospitalized for a week the end of Jan so they could figure out what to put me on. I'm home with a contraction monitor that I use a few times a day and a constant terbutaline pump in my leg that slows down the contractions a little....so far they aren't painful. And NO cervical change as of last Thurs evening. yay! Why did they do a Ffn test on ya? Just cuz of the way you were feeling? I had one in early Jan and it was negative. I was going to do another one on Thurs, but with my cervix still long and closed, they said we won't mess with it this time. Just dealing with the contractions!

Stay laying down as much as you can! Laying on your side is best, but laying flat vs reclined is the most effective at prolonging your pregnancy. You can read my story on the "bedrest success stories" thread. As far as growth, I'm pretty sure they grow around 1/2 lb a week at that point. Congrats on making it to 32 wks by the way, that is a huge milestone! Hope you make it much further... keep us posted!

I've been on strict bedrest since January 15 - bathroom and shower privelages only. two weeks ago I was admitted into the hospital and will be here on bedrest until my boys are born.

At 19 weeks, on January 13, I was diagnosed w/ TTTS by my MFM here in Dallas, and on January 15, I was in Houston having laser ablation surgery to correct the blood flow in the placenta. The surgery was successful, except that my membranes ruptured during it, which we knew was a risk going in. I didn't really figure out that i was leaking until we got back to Dallas the next evening. I called my MFM and he told me to go to L & D. I did have some uterine irritability but no contractions to be worried about, but was admitted anyway to get IV antibiotics and to monitor the babies. I was discharged a couple days later w/ antibiotic prescriptions since i hadn't reached viability yet. I got weekly u/s until I reached 23 weeks, at which point my MFM thought it best for me to be in patient, so here I am waiting. I get u/s twice a week, dopplers for the babies' HBs twice a day, and white count screening to check for infection twice a week.

I can't believe some of you have been on bedrest for months already with more to go.....you are my heroes!! Congratulations to all of you! :)

  6. First of all, what is FFN??

I just posted this on the other thread before I saw this thread, so excuse the cut n paste.

I was put on modified bedrest at 30 weeks due to poor fetal growth for Baby A. Her abdomen is not growing proportionate to the rest of her body. Also, her amniotic fluid was low and she had intermitent blood flow thru the ambilical cord (bad placenta location). I was admitted into to the hospital pretty much directly from my ultrasound appt 3 weeks ago. They monitored me for 24 hours and the babies looked stable, so they released me to modified bedrest at home. I am now going in for NST and Dopler readings (umbilical cord flow) twice a week. So far everything is remaining stable. The Dopler has been good, and the fluid, well it is fluctuating a lot (going up a little, then back down, then back up a little...etc). I feel so fortunate that I am able to be on bedrest at home, I can't imagine having to be in the hospital on bedrest. I think I would get incrediblly depressed. So we're hoping to hang in there until at least 36 weeks! I have another growth scan on Tuesday, so, hopefully baby A has grown more, if not then I have a feeling I will be admitted again, given the steroid shot and a c/s will be scheduled. I've gotta be ready for anything!

    Hi ladies...

You can also read more about my situation on the Bedrest Success Stories board...but in a nutshell...I have been on bedrest since Week 16. I am now at Week 33!! Yep, that's 17 weeks of bedrest. I am pregnant with identical twin girls who were discovered to have discordant growth at Week 16. They have both continued to grow well...Baby A now at 3lbs and Baby B now at 4 1/2 lbs! We are hoping to make it to 36 weeks, and we have a C-section scheduled at 38 weeks! Not much longer now to go!! (Hooray!)

Hang in there, and drink lots and lots of water!

    Hello all,
I'm 30 weeks today and have been on hospital bed rest since 24 weeks.....it feels like I've been here for a lifetime!!! I've been pretty bored but I keep myself occupied by cross stitching, surfing the internet, and watching movies. The worst part about it is being in the hospital, I would much rather be at home, in my own house....but I guess the doctors know best and I figure this is the best place for me if something were to happen.

REBECCAA: a fFN test is a Fetal Fibronectin Test which is similar to a pap smear. Fetal Fibronectin is a protein which is produced by the fetal membranes and serves as a sort of glue to attach the fetal sac to the uterine lining. The protein is normally found in your vagina during the first half of your pregnancy, but is absent after the 22nd week until it reappears at the end of the last trimester (one to three weeks before term labor). If it is present between your 22nd and 37th week, it means the glue is disintegrating ahead of schedule and that you may go into preterm labor soon.
The fFN test is not routinely given to women experiencing a normal pregnancy since it has not been shown to accurately predict preterm labor in women who are not at high risk and have no symptoms. However, if you are considered high risk or have symptoms of preterm labor, your doctor will probably order the test. A negative fFN result can put you more at ease and avoid unnecessary interventions such as bedrest or hospitalization. A negative fFN test result is a highly reliable predictor that labor will not occur in the next two weeks; however, a positive result is a less reliable predictor of preterm labor.
    I hoped this helped u.
