I came home from the hospital today and will probably be on bedrest until the babies are born (so, hopefully for a looong time). On Monday I had that ever-so-long 19 week ultrasound - we're having a boy and a girl - and my cervix and everything were fine. On Tuesday, I saw my doctor because of some crampng and very light spotting. Somehow my cervix had dilalated to 3 cm. I went straight to labor and delivery and had a cerculage put in that evening (by which time I was dialated to 5 cm even with no known contractions during the wait). I am finally home, and so very thrilled to not be laying in that hospital bed! I'm on bedrest of course, but my doctor doesn't seem to want to do anything more until the twins are "viable." Is this normal? I'm trying to trust her and am trying to relax, but every little twinge sends me into a bit of a panic!

Anyway, I've been reading some of the encouraging threads in this forum tonight and been enjoying the "good news" of people iin similar situations taking home healthy babies!

I hope all of you have a happy Thanksgiving and a wonderful weekend!

i havent had that trype of experience but i am also on bedrest til the babies are born. its not easy and sometimes feels like time is going by so slow. I also get real nervous at eash lil twitch i feel or when i have sharp pains. I also worry when i dont feel them for like half the day. i have also heard great good news posts that make me stay positive and thats all we have to be is positive. Hang in there it will be over before you know it and you will have you beautiful babies to look at :hug99:

I had my emergency cerclage put in at 22wks. And I've been on hospital bedrest since. I will tell you it has not always been easy, but what has gotten me through is a very supportive DH and knowing I was doing all I could for my babies. I would strongly encourage you to get the steriod shots at 24wks.

I was being watched because we knew my cervix was a little shorter than it should be. I went in at 21wks for a routine cervical check and only had 1.5cm left. After they did the procedure the doctor told me I was also a finger tip dialted. While being in the hospital I've had vaginal ultrasounds every 2 weeks to check on my cervix. My stitich as stayed in place and for the last 6 weeks my cervix has been stable at .9cm. Now I'm 34.5wks and looking at the end of bedrest soon!

You can do this! Just remember to follow all doctor orders. Consider yourself on very strict bedrest. (I used a bedpan in the hospital for the first 6 weeks of my bedres even!)

Good luck and keep us posted!!

There are so many people including myself on this forum that bedrest did a world of difference. I went on hospital bedrest at 25 weeks for PTL and dilation. I didn't make it to full term but I did make it to 28 weeks which is a huge preemie milestone. Everyday you can keep those babies is your belly is 3 days they don't have to be in the NICU. My girls are doing great now, and should come home in a couple weeks. Its been a long road, but well worth it.

You can do it! Just remember its ok to cry. Try to keep yourself busy. Some things that really helped me were my laptop, a journal, my blog, manicure sets, good smelly lotions, and a multiude of DVD's. Make sure, especially because you are home you are following the Dr's orders. Take it easy. I will keep you and your babies in my prayers. Good Luck!

Fingers crossed that time flies for you on bed rest. I'm trying to look at it like a mini vacation with the end goal bigger babies.

My Dr. too didn’t want to do ANYTHING until 20 weeks with my son (bedrest wasn't even suggested)… I went to the hospital at 19 weeks for something (I went so much with that pregnancy I forget why I went now… its been 10 year) and I remember feeling so helpless and distort that they weren’t will to do anything… like this wasn’t a baby worth saving… well I was put on bed rest @ 24 weeks and we made it to 35 with a big baby boy and no nicu. I often wonder if it was my worry that sent me into PTL… not just for the pregnancy but a lot of family drama (my parents split after 36 years of marriage when I was 22 weeks), we bought our first home… we were in the early years of our business… so all I can say is do your best to relax and think only positive… limit everything to the bare minimum… I have tried really hard to do that this go around, and with twins I’ll already had no drama (except extreme m/s)… I had had drama already with my son pregnancy by now, spotting, crapping… oh the list is endless
Just remember it can and WILL be okay in the end (it was for me)

    Hi-
My story is very similar. I had an emergency cerclage put in at 20 weeks and have been on bedrest since 18 weeks. Are you taking terbutaline for any contractions?
I now have become much better at detecting what is a contracting (tightening of your uterus and belly) and timing them. No more than an hour, 60-90 sec each time. It really helps to know what those are versus all those other "twinges" - round ligament pains, babies moving etc. You will find this board is so helpful in alleviating your fears or if you just need to vent. Also, check out www.sidelines.org. But when in doubt, call your doctor. Stay positive and keep us posted!

My story is sort of the same, it just didn't happen until later in my pregnancy. I went into the hospital for a headache, and was found to be 2 cm dilated. Well, less tahn 36 hours, and no noticable contractions- not even on the monitor I went to 5 and was told to expect to deliever within the next two days- this was at 31 weeks. I had to stay in the hospital for 10 days, 5 of which I was on magnesium. Finally after hitting 33 weeks, and no changes in a week in my cervix I got to come home too. That made me happy because I did not care for that bed either.
So here I am 34 weeks, and still only at 5! So the bedrest- and procardia, are doing their job.
Just try to keep a positive attitude and take your bedrest seriously (and I do realize how hard that is!)
    Keep us posted :D

Thank you all for your encouraging stories and your kind words of support. It means so much to me.

I had one terbutaline shot in the hospital, but I'm not taking anything now that I'm home. I kinda wish I could. I'd gladly give myself shots if that would help! (But, then I'm sure all of you are in this same boat!)

    One more day down... :D

Sorry you are on bedrest, it is not easy, but well worth it! Has your Dr. mentioned anything about the steroid shots yet?

    Hang in there. :love0028:
