join bedrest at 31 wks now 33 wks 1d

Hello, everyone, I just found this forum and feel to be home. I am going to have spontaneous di di twins ( a boy and a girl).

I was ordered bedrest on my regular 31 wks visit. My peri found I have developed cervix funneling and my effective cervical length is only 1 cm through v/u. He also did a manual exam and said I am 90% effaced, but twins positions high and no dilation yet. I was then put on bedrest. I had a followup v/u at 32 wks and the situation was not changed. At that time, he told me he may give me steroid at week 33 to help twins lung development in case of preterm delivery. fFn done before v/u came back with negative. At week 33, I had another fFn test and then v/u. fFn came back today again with negative result. My peri did another manal check yesterday and confirmed it is still 0/90%/high. v/u shows no change on effective cervical length since 31wks. Every time, they did a NST test on me. No contractions have been observed. So, my peri decided to cancel the steroid shot but he said if I go into labor at 34 wks, he will order that for me.

Now, my questions are: is funneling really dangerous? is 90% effaced really bad? Should I ask for steroid just in case? This is my first preganancy. I have no previous experience. Does it likely I can hold till 37 weeks? I really hope to make it happen. Anyone has similar experience, such as funneling?

btw, both my babies are head down now and I was told they are likely run out of room so I may have the chance to delivery them vaginally. Baby A is bigger, a boy and Baby B is a little bit smaller, a girl.

 

I would advise you to request the steroids shots. I don't know how dangerous funneling is, so I can't help u with that. My situation is different than yours since you are more advanced in your pregnancy than I am, and I am dilated w/ a 4cm cervical length where u are not dilated... My membranes are bulging (they funneled thru the cervix into my vg) since I was 22w3d. I got the shots at 23w3d since the twins were wxpected to be born imminently. Did ?I mentionned that I was 4-5 cm dilated? So here I am, on hospital bedrest ever since 6/4 and praying daily that the twins may grow in utero a little longer!

AT 33 WEEKS Your in a great spot...I had a positive ffn @ 25 weeks with a cervcal length of 1.6 with Funneling as well.VERY SCARY @ 25 weeks no so much at 33 weeks.

With my last pregnancy was 3 cm dialated & 80% effaced @ 32 weeks and stayed that way,untill I begged for an induction at 37 weeks!

I agree though I would ask for the steriods just in case.

You have done a great job...Im off strict Bedrest now after 7 weeks,and Im still hanging in there at 2.1,my docs are no longer worried ,and Im a week or so behind you it sounds like.

Take it easy though,no lifting sex etc...

the fact that your ffn test came back negative is a really good sign! I dont have experience with funneling, but from what i understand, it means that your cervix can shrink a lot quicker/easier because its already starting to open from one end. I would go with whatever your dr feels is best in regards to steroid shots. I got mine at just over 30 weeks when i was almost 2cm dilated and had a positive ffn test etc. Stick to your bedrest and i'm sure you can keep those lil ones cookin awhile longer, you're getting close!

I went to see my OB today and he told me I am 60% effaced, no dilation, station -1. I am happy to heard that though I knew I am ahead of average at this gestational week. Anyone has similar experience and holds for another two weeks?

I hope to hold for another two weeks than it will be much safe for my babies to arrive. Thanks for all the information.
