Jogging strollers you can actually jog with?

Background: I've been running for years as my primary source of exercise. I have run three marathons and countless races of other distances, and don't plan on stopping now that I'm a mom. However, as the twins primary caregiver and milk machine, I have a hard time finding time to run since I am home alone with the boys.

So, I've decided to get a jogging stroller for twins and push the little guys along on my runs. I won't be fast, but I'll get my exercise, and maybe I'll be able to squeeze in a race or two this year.

So, I'm looking for a double jogging stroller that is capable of handling a long distance run, up to two hours, at a time. It needs to be capable of handling turns and hills, and I'm going to need to be able to pack anything the boys or I might need in two hours.

    Any suggestions, recommendations?

Bob Revolution Duallie! It is so awesome. I've been running with it for months now, and I love it. There is a compartment underneath where you should be able to stow everything you'll need for an outing. There are also pockets on the backs of the seats.

And :bow2: to you for the marathons! WOW.

Baby jogger with 20" wheels. I know there are newer ones out there but I love mine. I have two singles and a double. They hold up to the rough trails and the abuse of a 3rd kid riding on top. The sun canopy could be better though.

That is awesome that you have run marathons. That has been a dream of mine for a long time and hopefully one day I'll do it.

DH and I are looking for a jogging stroller too because our family is going to do the March of Dimes this month.

I am interested to see what people say.

I second the Bob Revolution Duallie. My husband is a marathon runner and loves this stroller. He says it's easy to push, stays straight, etc. We use the Bob for all of our stroller needs... running, errands, long walks, etc. It's not super easy to take in and out of the car, but everything else about it is great. The sun shades are particularly good and the seats recline individually.

My sister has a singleton and one due any day. With her singleton she did a lot of research on jogging strollers and came to the conclusion that the BOB was best for her purposes. She, too, uses running as one of her primary exercise methods and has run the Boston Marathon 3 or 4 times. She now has to get a double and is looking to the BOB double for her jogger.

I have the Baby Jogger single and the triple. While I am not a runner, the person that I got the triple from used to run road races with it. I find it to be lighter than the double jogger we have and we used it al last summer. That was why when I saw the single at my MOMS sale, I picked it up right away.

We havent decided on one yet -altho i hear the BOB is great-its pretty pricey.. so im not much help there but wanted to tell u that in my search i found this thing-of course now i cant think of it- that locks onto the stroller and then straps around your waist, so that u can still use your arms to run. i read that it takes some getting used to, but just thought id throw that out there for you. if i find a pic ill post it.

My dh runs marathons. We have the Chariot Cougar2 jogging stroller. It's awesome! You can also purchase attachments to make it into a bike trailer or even put skis on it. It was expensive but so worth it. Dh takes the babies running all the time. It has a 100lb weight limit so he often takes our 4yr old and 1 baby too.

My DH trained for his marathons using our Valco Runabout (single--when we had just one) and again using the valco twin, and it's awesome.

We have an InStep (not sure of the model) and it's really not so great. Just wanted to warn you against that-- probably not even something you are considering, but in case you looked at it, it is REALY hard to maneuver and you feel like you're pushing it through sand no matter what surface it is on. Good resistance training workout, I suppose! hehe

I haven't gotten a double jogger yet, but I LOVE my single by Dreamer Design. They have a double, too, so I'll probably get it. It got good reviews on baby-gaga.com

I have done marathons and triathlons and also need something sturdy. I have a bob revolution duallie because it met my jogging path needs. If you are going to do a lot of trail running you might want a BOB Ironman. We have paved paths where I live so the Revolution's flexibility to lock and lock the front wheel was my selling point. BOB's have a great repuation, you can find review on Runnersworld.com. The women's forums over there will overwhelming vote for BOB's. Having said all of that...it is a pricey stroller. This is the single most expensive item we have bought. It comes with no accessories, at a minimum you should buy the handle bar console. I am considering a weather shield currently. The seats recline, the venting is good, it cleans easily. I also like the quick release wheels because it makes transpoting the stroller for longer trips a no-brainer. My other complaint is no hand break on the revolution but I don't have a lot of hills so this isn't a big issue.

    Good luck and keep running!

ooh, another question--how old do the twinks have to be before they can ride?

I also love my Valco (w/toddler seat), but I have not run any long distances. My litttle ones have been in it for a few weeks, now. I am very careful since they ae so small still.
Good luck w/ your training! I'm impressed. :)

From what I've heard, they should be at least 6 months old before actually sitting in the jogger while you are running. My sister got the infant car seat adapter for hers and that worked out fine for her.

Depending on recline I have heard six months. I use headrests with mine and we have been ok. You can also find car seat adaptors. I keep telling myself after running with one of these you will fly through your races!

I'm not a runner, but we researched the BOB as our everyday stroller. They DO make a carseat attachment, but just for one carseat (meant to use with one toddler and one infant.... not very twinfant-friendly!) Good luck! It's not easy finding a perfect stroller! (we ended up getting the Instep, since it will just be used for walking. I plan to start using it this summer, when the boys are 5-6 months old.)

Ditto that!!!! I have done several races with mine (finished 5th in the stroller division of the TTTS Race for Hope in Denver :D ). I started using it when they were about 3 months old and still do!

The manufacturers tell you ridiculous things (like "Wait until at least 8 months"!) because they don't want to get sued. I asked my pedi around 4 or 5 mo, and she couldn't see how there would be any problem. I went for a very cautious first run with the babies on smooth sidewalks, watching their heads the whole time - no jostling or bumping whatsoever. A good jogging stroller will have great shocks, so they really don't get bumped around much. It's a cushy ride.

I also bought the "fuzzies" for the BOB that kinda hold them in better and keep them warm, they seemed happier once we had them in.
