Hi everyone! Our boy/girl twins arrived on Thursday December 27th! It was a great experience and I am so happy to be home with them. SO here goes our birth story with a link to a couple pictures.

I woke up last Thursday at 8:30am and went downstairs to the kitchen, grabbed a cup of coffee and hopped on the couch to watch Sasha and Bennett play with their Christmas toys. I let Bruce, my husband, sleep in and spent some time with our kids as I knew I could "go" anyday now and deliver the babies. So I was enjoying my kids and my coffee when at 9am, I started with contractions that FINALLY fell into a regular pattern for once! They were every 5 minutes and I tracked them for an hour and sure enough, they were regular and they were real! (for all the posts I did about "how did you KNOW that you were in labor" and all my questions about bh contractions........you WILL know when it is time. I had two prior c/s's so I have never gone in to labor naturally.....I was so excited to experience some natural labor! It was not too bad I have to say.

Bruce got up right when I was at the hour mark of tracking my contractions and we called my ob. He said to come on into labor and delivery and off we went. THANK GOD triage was full, so the nurses put me in a regular room and I was hooked up to the monitors and checked for cervical dilation. ONE cm, no change from the day before at my ob appt. At that point it was around Noon. My ob didnt want to send me home because my contractions were 2-3 minutes apart at that point and checked me around 3pm and I was dilated to 3 cm!!! So off we went to the OR and did my c/s at 36 weeks and one day! :) I was SO calm and relaxed, it made the experience that much more awesome. Hard to believe but I really enjoyed this c/s, my first two I was SO nervous and it really took away from the experience.

At 3:58pm William Bruce Morris Oakes was born weighing 6lbs 5oz 19inches long!
At 3:59pm Maeve Eleanor Morris Oakes was born weighing 6lbs 7oz 17 inches long!

Both came out crying and looked SO chubby and healthy! Eat eat eat girls, it makes a big difference!

Will was grunting and the NICU doc said she wanted to check him out in the NICU...so off he went, had a chest xray which found some fluid in his lungs. Will was in the NICU for 24 hours to be monitored as a precaution until he acclimated to being outside the womb. Maeve was great, she came in our room with us and we all just started bonding. I couldnt wait for Will to join us, 24 hours felt like an eternity but all worked out well and he was in my arms with his sister. We came home on Monday and it is going really well. We have had ONE tough night so far.

We are formula feeding so they are eating every 3-4 hours like clockwork. It is actually a livable schedule and thank GOD for our new coffee maker!

We pronounce her name "mave" but used the traditional spelling......just love love love the name. We were going to do Lily, but I decided not to use it as I wanted to avoid the rhyming twin names of "Will and Lil" or "Willie and Lily".

One of the cool facts about the name Maeve is that she was the Queen of Ireland in the 16th century.....a strong but elegant name.

We are just so excited they are here! For all you gals past 30 weeks, keep them in as long as you can. It was SO worth it to have healthy take home packages! And boy was I done being pregnant and complained a lot at the end, there is nothing like the relief and absolute sheer JOY of having healthy babies come home with you.

Thanks to all my twinstuff buddies who offered advice, support and knowledge from their experience with a twin pregnancy. It got me over many humps, many tears from everything hurting and all my crazy questions!

So thank you to you all. And every day, every week counts! KEEP GOING! xojillian
