Yes, I'm insane. We are doing a messy art birthday party for the boys. They picked out this crayon cake months ago and are still wanting it. We have a huge backyard with a fence and a kids picnic table along with folding tables. My plan is to put up lots of paper on the fence and give the kids paint and brushes to have fun. I also plan on having colored pencils/crayons/markers on the folding tables with paper and coloring books. On the picnic table I'm going to have out playdoh. I'm going to fill up their kiddie pool with water (and soap) for cleaning hands (as well as having wipes available). We will also be doing make your own pizzas. Since we just moved we don't know many people so it's just for about 10 kids (ages 1-4). Do I need to have one more activity? I was trying to think of something that would not involve a table (since I don't have any more). Any ideas? TIA!

That sounds like soooo much fun!! What a great idea!!!
The only other thing I could think of but it may be too old for the kids... Is filling water balloons with some sort of colored liqued and throwing them at the fence with the paper on it. Not sure how it would be done but it sounds messy

    Have fun!!!

That sounds like SO much fun. You could go to the thrift store and get some adult mens dress shirts for smocks. I did see on TV once where they let kids "paint" with chocolate pudding and I thought that would be a blast - a HUGE mess but something they probably would love. Cant wait to see some pictures. I think I will have to write this down for future bday ideas!

Oh I love the pudding idea!!! Maybe put a cheap white (or clear) plastic tablecloth on the fence. Any thoughts about ants though? And I love the smock idea too. I just put in the invite for the kids to wear grubby clothes or a swimsuit, but the smocks would be a much easier clean up. Especially since we'll be making pizzas (and probably eating them) inside. I think I'll have them make their pizzas as they arrive and then head out back for play so they don't have to come back inside until it's time to eat/open gifts and go home.

Thanks so much ladies. It's really helped talking it all out. Oh and the gift bags are a box of crayons (.20 after school started!), stickers, and a bag of colorful M&M's.

Don't know if you have a place to do sidewalk chalk, that is always a hit. What about finger painting, you don't have to do just real paint. Shaving cream is great for this, or pudding. Put some on a cookie sheet and put on the grass. Refill as necessary. You don't have to save, just make shapes and wipe to clear the board and start again.
