Jack poops EVERY time I put him down for a nap!

Jack used to be my easy sleeper. He would fall asleep without complaint the moment you set him down, for both nap and bedtime. He would nap for close to three hours. About two weeks ago he started skipping his naps. It is the craziest thing, out of nowhere!

The first two days he skipped I let him cry for a bit and when I finally gave up and got him it turned out he had gone number 2. So, every day thereafter, once he has been standing there screaming for a bit, I go up and check and sure enough, poop in the diaper. It has happened EVERY day! Now, he is all messed up as he cries when I put him down, cries until I go check and change his diaper, and then cries even louder when I leave. It is like he knows I will come it - I have no choice!

That is what bothers me, I have no choice. I check his diaper right before I put him down and it is obviously empty as I have just changed it. Then, somewhere between putting him in bed and about 15 minutes of screaming later up I go to change him.

It is like his little internal clock is set - poop at 7am when he wakes up and poop 15 minutes after I put him down. I even tried putting him down later and earlier and to no avail - still poop during nap! VERY frustrating!

That's infuriating!!! OY! I would just continue to change him. He's screaming and crying when you put him down, so he's pushing at that point and that's WHY he's pooping at that point. I wouldn't probably talk to him much, just change him and put him back down. When he knows you'll still leave him, he'll eventually just give up! But I can see where this is super frustrating!

I agree... if he used to sleep really well, then I would change him, and then put him down and let him cry..you know he is tired. How long have you let him cry before going back in?
Ive read your previous posts about DD not napping and how it effects your work-a-home schedule.. I know this must be making it sooo much harder.. I hope you can get through this, and Jack starts napping again soon!

No advice, just a quick post to let you know you're not alone. Cricket poops 10 minutes after I put her down most days too. She refuses to sleep with a poopy diaper, so unless I change her, there's no nap. So... I give in and change her with a minimum of talking and she falls asleep almost immediately.

    Hang in there.

I do put him back down after I change him and will typically let him go for up to an hour (total) (Weisbluth, I think) and then I get him. He can really get going though and if I am feeling particularly wimpy I will get him sooner. I am determined to win this little battle, I just hate leaving him in there after I change him as he really gets MAD! And yes, this is killing my work schedule and has somehow happened right when Lily went back to napping :)! Figures!

That is really frustrating. Amy has gone through several phases where she will poop 15 minutes after going down for bed at night. (Fortunately now at least she doesn't cry. But it's still annoying to have to build it into our evening schedule!) She has also gone through phases of waking up early from nap because she always pooped -- that one was, thankfully, solved by potty training.

Anyway, I agree with the other advice. Just consider it to be inevitable, change him when it happens, and then put him down again as if you're doing it for the first time.

Crazy thought perhaps but have you tried putting him on the potty before nap?

:rotflmbo: Oh, totally! We've had phases of that with one or the other. When we get in that mode, I change them and put them back down. Which sometimes they are outspoken about. But it passes. (Urg, bad pun!)

 Thats a perfect name for it! I thought I was the only one having this problem!! My son David does the same thing everyday at naptime.
You're not alone & I hope this "revenge poop" gets better for all of us!!

this is aiden...every nap..i think it's the binky pushing things out. after a few minutes or even an hour i go up and change him and tell him back to night nights and he does..it took a while for this to happen but eventually it started to work.

This was a phase for us for about 3 weeks. Except that both my boys were doing it and then taking their diapers off (they sleep in the same room - monkey see, monkey do)!! I just waited it out (instead of changing routine) and it eventually stopped. Be strong - you seem to be doing everything you can do!

OH mine is before bed, thankfully it is before, but a couple times it has been after I have laid him down and then I have had to get him back up change him and lay him back down which means he has a total melt down for a while after.
I agree that it would be wise to change him and lay him back down. He might not go back to sleep the first few times but after a while it will pay off. I hate when they cry themselves back to sleep it kills me but in the long run it gets better, or at least that is what I tell myself
