I was just looking at the sticky on this and wondered if my girls would fall into this category-? Baby B has always measured a little behind from the beginning but yesterday at our 25 week ultrasound baby A was in the 65th percentile and baby B was in the 35th percentile. My doctor said that she would just keep an eye on them and she didn't seem too worried since baby b was still in the normal range- just smaller than baby a. I wondered.. is this sound okay? Is there anything I can do to beef up baby b? I've started drinking ensure and I'm trying to eat more protein..Thanks!

 Momma! I have no experience with IUGR, but I would think that if that is what your Dr thought it was he wouldn't take it lightly. Are you seeing a Peri? I know there are several women on here that have gone through this, and hopefully they can give you more clear answers. Good Luck!

We were diagnosed at 24 weeks u/s with baby B having IUGR. If your Dr. is not concerned at the moment, try not to stress. I am sure he will monitor this now to make sure that growth is normal. Things can change from u/s to u/s. I would think it's normal for growth rates to differ between babies. We were often on the verge of normal but had issues with our cord blood flow and then eventually she just wasn't growing enough. It is always a good idea to eat/drink lots of protein. Drink lots of water. Get lots of rest. Stay positive. It doesn't hurt to take it easy. My thoughts were "let all the good nutrients, go to the baby."

I hope everything has a positive outcome for you. Even though, ours were born early, they managed to stay in for 33 weeks and are perfect little girls! There are lots of positive IUGR stories on here if you do end up with an issue, and lots of great support. :)

  4. That doesn't seem like too bad a difference at all - I wouldn't worry about it.

My babies do have IUGR and are being c-sectioned at 35.1 weeks tomorrow for this reason. My girl is in the 10th percentile and my boy has dropped from the 75th percentile to the 25th. I believe you only need to start to worry when the get below the 10th percent.

I drink Boost once a day per suggestion from my Peri. Wonder if Ensure tastes better? I just chug mine and am thankful for the added nutrition even though I hate the taste.

I drank ensure with my girls per dr's orders. Are yours frat or id or not sure? It might just be the difference in babies. We had an almost 50% difference towards the end. When resting lay on your left side it will promote good blood flow to both the babies. Stay well hydrated too.

They are most likely fraternal. Just want to get them as far as we can!!!!

That is exactly how my DS's IUGR started out. My peri also told me not to worry. Two weeks later, I was admitted on hospital bedrest because things got worse. Please make sure you are closely monitored so you can get the best outcome.

I sucked down steak, ensure and water and complied with my bedrest orders and made it to 34 weeks.

How far along were you when you were admitted to the hospital? If you don't mind me asking- how did it get worse? They are checking me weekly for cervical shortening by ultrasound, so maybe I could get them to check on the babies as well.. they never seem to have enough time to check the babies...

We have a similar situation. At 32 weeks our boy was in the 69th percentile but our girl was in the 27th. The thing that really caught their attention was that our little girl's stomach was in the 7th percentile.

Apparently there can be symmetric IUGR (the baby is small all over) and asymetric IUGR (the baby's growth isn't proportional all over -- usually a small stomach). As I understand it asymetric IUGR is more common. I set up an appt with a perinatologist just to be safe.

Hope all goes well with you! :)

Did the doctor ever end up do any kind of intervention for your smaller twin? Did she ever catch up?

My girls were monitored twice a week(to check cord flow on jess and growth). Delivery was really the only thing they could do to help my IUGR baby(Jessy)

Do you know which measurements are causing twin b to measure behind (or are all of the measurements smaller than actual dates). Up until my last ultrasound my twin A was measuring around the 50th percentile, while twin B was sitting around the 30th percentile. Reading the measurements, the difference seemed to mainly be caused by twin B having quite a short BPD (measurement across the head).
At my last scan, twin A & twin B were both measuring in the 65th percentile - with twin Bs BPD having caught up.
I think our main problem was that the u/s people hadnt been able to get a clear enough measurement of twin Bs head before (being squashed by twin A).

Like PP said - it can all change between ultrasounds!

Babyhopoes09 -- We are just 34 weeks now. I have an appt w/the perinatologist on Monday. They did not feel it was necessary b/c my ob consults with them but I made an appt b/c I feel like they might have better equipment (i.e. ultrasound machines) and just more experience with this. I have not decided whether or not I will actually switch practices. That will probably depend on the results we get on Monday.

My ob is concerned but not worried. They feel that most likely I will make it to 36 weeks. I suggested adding a non-stress test to my weekly appts and my ob agreed.

I'll let you know what happens. Hope all goes well for you!
