I was wondering if anyone has become pregnant while using paraguard(IUD)? I have been using it since April 2008 so about a year and a half and so far its worked great I think!!! I just had a normal period 3weeks ago but I'm just not feeling right kinda feel like I might be pregnant and I have done some research and its possible if you lose weight for the IUD to move to your uterus and I recently lost 16 pounds. It wouldn't be the worst think in the world if I was but I kinda Wanted to lose 20 more pounds and start trying around January 2010! Just wondering if anyone has any stories or Info??

Eeek! I don't know much except that it can be risky to get pg on an IUD. Good luck!

I know it is possible because there is a member on here who got pregnant with one inserted. I know it can be very dangerous, but thankfully she had a healthy baby boy. Hopefully she will see this thread and respond because I cannot remember her username.

It's certainly possible but you want to see your doc right away to have it removed so it won't hurt the baby.

That would be me. Yes it is completely possible to get pregnant with an IUD (mine was a Paraguard CopperT IUD) in place. Mine had shifted out of place just slightly according to the u/s. If you suspect you are pregnant, please take a home pregnancy test ASAP. The risks are much greater if the IUD is still in place. In some cases the IUD has slipped out altogether without being noticed and the risk isn't any worse than normal. If you get a positive home test, call the OB ASAP and let them know you just got a positive with an IUD in place. They should see you same day, or next day. They had to remove my IUD and I was monitored weekly to make sure the pregnancy was viable until the 12 wk mark. At the 12wk mark, the OB decided he was in there to stay so we switched to a normal pregnancy schedule. Good luck.

Thanks jenn, I was going to wait until I'm supposed to start my period this weekend and then decide but maybe I will get one sooner.

I would wait for the missed period. I was a week late before my DH realized it (yes he realized I was late before I did). Just don't wait too long if it doesn't show.

I've talked to a few women who had gotten pg with the Merina IUD, but not that one. They had to have the IUDs removed in the early weeks and delivered healthy full term babies. SO gl to you if you are pg!
