School will be out here in a couple of weeks and I've started planning the summer. It's amazing how fast it can feel "full". Here's what we have so far: Summer reading program at library- we'll be logging our reading for prizes at the library Swimming lessons Reading class for Timothy- he reads at grade level but he wants this because he still gets really frustrated reading sometimes Sleepovers and playing at grandma's house, playing at the local lake, and playing at great-grandma and great-papa's house at Lake of the Ozarks And in general, going to the park and having fun So, what are you all doing? Marissa
Our summers are actually when we have fewer organized activities! Anna's dance class will be over and so will their Wednesday night Bible club. We will have Vacation Bible School in June and my sister is getting married in August, so there will be a ton of wedding stuff to do. Other than that, all of our activities will start back up in the fall and we will be adding a few new things next year. I plan to spend most of our time in the back yard and swimming in our pool this summer!
We are doing 8 weeks of day camp this summer (I work as a counselor, and the boys attend camp). We follow that up with a trip to the beach in SC.
We're off to visit Grandma in Germany for 2 1/2 weeks, and also meet up with DH who will be on leave (haven't seen him since T-Day), then it's off to an all day camp for the rest of the summer for the girls, the daily work grind for me and hopefully packing up and coming home for good for DH.
My sister and I were discussing this last week. We are going to get a season pass each to our state park system. I'm not sure what else. One problem is that we have a large age range of kids, from 6 months to 9 years, and there are a lot of them, because my sister has a day care. The other problem is that I have to work. Or at least have to work part of the time. Right now I'm planning on either 2 days a week or 4 days a week (depends on an interview next week!!!) We do have a library program during the summer. And we should end up at my parents summer house part of the time. I'm not sure what we will do for Girl Scouts this summer. Last year we did a weekend camping/training that we all enjoyed.
Nothing!! This is the first summer since the twins were born that we are not doing some class or another. Spring soccer just ended so I am FREE, FREE!!! We are leaving on a month long road trip with the trailer the week after school gets out (end of June) and plan to hit Oregon, Yellowstone and then circle back to CA through Utah, Arizona and Nevada. We have no reservations and are going to take it a day at a time. Then come August, my youngest BIL is getting married and all the kids and dh are in the wedding. I am sure that will be a little bit of chaos. I can't wait until summer!!
We have planned: June swim lessons for all three Baseball season for Ethan Cub scout day camp for Ethan Girl scout twilight camp for Cassie Cub Scout/Boy Scout campout for Zach and Ethan July vacation my brother's wedding Boy Scout summer camp for Zach VBS for Ethan & Cassie Band camp at the jr. high for Zach August Nothing yet as I have to start getting ready to go back to work We also need to throw in a trip to Great America to use the free tickets they earned by reading.
School doesn't end here until June 24 or 25. Packing and moving 2,000 miles. We are taking 3 weeks to drive there, stopping to see grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins. Then school starts in August in Texas, so summer break will be very short and very busy.
I think school gets out around June 14th or something like that. Isabel will be going to daycamp 3 days a week at the daycare the the twins go to. The daycamp is for k-4th graders and they do a ton of fun stuff and lots of field trips. She'll be doing swim lessons, art lessons and also taking a trip to Niagra Falls with my Mom for 5 days. We're really trying not to overpack things as it always seems to go by way too fast and I don't get to enjoy her being home.
My kids get out June 4th (preschool). We have a couple of day outings for the first couple of weeks. Then the week of June 21st, all three of them will be in a nature camp. It's a half day at a local park M-F. After that, we head to Cape Cod for the summer. I am going to try to get the into some swimming lessons down there.
We will continue gymnastics over the summer. I will only have to be there 3 days a week instead of 5 (only because I switched the boys' classes to match up with DD better). We are doing swim lessons for all 4 kids the first two weeks of June. I'm sure we will continue our monthly trips to the zoo, our book club, our 4-H meetings, etc. Oh and my DD gets all of next week off for her "summer vacation" she will school most days otherwise.
The Summer Rec Program brochure came in the mail the other day so I need to check that out. We'll do the Summer Reading Program at the library. Every Monday they have some kind of kids' entertainer perform. There is also a sports camp that run for a week from 9-12 that I might sign them up for. We rent a house on the beach about 45 minutes from here. We have been doing this since before we were married. We rent it with some friends who have teenage kids. The big kids now babysit my kids! It is so much fun there! We'll be at my parent's pool who live right next door! And we are also hoping to visit our friends (Moski & Co.) who vacation down the Cape all summer!
My friends & I have been looking into having our kids do some fun day camps together. So far...signed them up for a nature camp (explore insects, animals in a protected nature reserve). Also a tennis camp and a soccer camp. Our extended family week beach trip is to Hilton Head, SC in late June. My hubby's family has a beautiful lake house about an hour away. We spend many summer weekends there swimming, boating, tubing, jet skiing, biking. Between the country club pool, friend's pool and the lake house pool, we spend MAJOR hours swimming in the summer. The boys are fish!! We put all of our yearly memberships to good use at the local amusement park, zoo and museums. It really is the best time of the year! So much fun for them and me Yeah for summer!!!
