It's taking them forever to settle at naps/bedtime

We gave up pacifiers two days ago, but this has been going on for a couple weeks. They have been partying and/or fussing and crying when we put them down for nap and bed. We had been going back in and giving them warnings to settle down and putting all their stuff back in the crib, but last night and today, we decided no more going back in. Naptime was awful today, it took them 1.5 hrs to settle down, and then they only slept for 45 min. Tonight at bedtime, they went on for an hour, and then Ainsley got very upset, so I thought I should go check on her. She had pooped, but I think she was more upset because the nut came off her squirrel (she has a squirrel holding a nut). I changed her, put all the stuff back, and then they went to sleep. It just makes me feel like I don't know what the heck to do. They were so good at going to bed previously. They went down without a peep. I don't think they are getting enough sleep anymore. Is this normal at this age? Should I keep up with the no going in? I thought maybe our going in to tell them to go sleep is backfiring and that's why the fussing and playing got longer.

Do you still separate them for nap Kelly? I had to separate mine for nap to keep them from having a big party! They still sleep in the same room at night, but it often takes them 45 minutes to settle down (especially if they took a good nap). When mine are really tired they go right to sleep, but most nights it takes them atleast 30 minutes to settle down.

I am in the same boat as far as they are taking at least 30 minutes to settle down for bed at night. I think it must be this age or something. They go to sleep pretty quickly at naps, but for the past couple weeks, nights take a while no matter what time I put them down. HTH :)

Mine have gone through phases of this. Maybe a week or so of taking forever to settle for naps. I often leave them alone for about 30 minutes and then go in and do a quick poop check. Then they're back to going down without a problem. Bedtime doesn't seem to be an issue yet. Hopefully it's just a phase.

I had to split them up after taking away the binkies too! It can be a little inconvenient at times, but, the only thing that gets them to settle down long enough to sleep!

They are together at naps now, per their request. It was great for a couple months, now they are partying. I may have to use separating them as a threat, if they can't sleep together, then one of them has to go to another room.

mine party at night a lot too - alisha is better at settling down than cameron is, so if she is exhausted, there is no party and cameron just plays his acquarium for a while. but if she is not too tired, they play and giggle and talk for a while - tonight it was at least 45 mins. they are so cute though and i love to hear them laughing together and talking so i usually just let them.

It is cute and I would hate to separate them. Today they partied at naptime, never did take a nap. But then tonight Ainsley was upset about I don't know what, and I could hear Bea saying to her "say Mama. say Dada" and then Ainsley would pitifully call "Mama! Dada!" DH went in, she wanted him to kiss her baby doll, then Bea wanted her baby kissed, and then they went to sleep. Tonight's partying was only 15-20 min. Bea was also singing "La la la la Elmo world". They really are at such a cute age

I'm glad you posted this.. I am having the same issues. My girls are GREAT sleepers...they usually sleep 3 hours during the day and at least 12 hours at night... Now it takes forever for them to go down at night. We put them down at 8 Pm and it takes about an hour of them either talking or playing their acquariums, so they're up until 9p. It's been happening during nap times the past few days too...and i'm worried about needing to separate them because Alexa has been doing ALL of the talking and keeping Ellie up. Ellie is happy to just suck on her paci and be quiet, but Alexa doesn't use one, and has been using her voice lately instead. I have no advice, but we are going through exactly the same thing at my house..and i'm sure taking away paci's can't be making it any easier for you. Good luck
