It's not true, is it? Wikipedia mortality rates on twins....

Wikepedia's article on twin mortality rates isn't true, is it? I also saw another article with the same stats. It claims 9%of di-di identicals, 25% in mono-di identicals, and 60% in mono-mono. Now, if they were factoring in the first trimester, this wouldn't be so scary- but I don't think they are.... they said for mono-di high mortality was due to TTTS....

This really is scary if it is true. I am hoping it isn't- if it's not, does anyone have accurate/reputable stats?

I think I have heard that many singletons start off as twins and one is usually lost early. But thats all I know.

 

I really don't think that is accurate in any way. If it were you would hear of many more people on this website that lost their twins. Of course twins are more likely to have problems in utero, but I have never heard of this.

I know from your previous posts that you are very worried about having twins. My only advice would be to relax and hope that your babies grow strong and do not have any problems. If problems do arise then there are things that can be done to help certian conditons. If worse comes to worse, they deliver and try to handle any problems on the outside. It is only going to hurt you to worry about what could happen. Try to relax. Remember, there are a lot of people on Twin Stuff that are going through or went through a twin pregnancy. They are so helpful and have a ton of wonderful advice to give! :hug99:

I don't believe much on the Wikepidia site. Anyone can put stuff on there or edit stuff....not very reliable in my opinion.

 

This may be a world-wide statistic. I am sure the mortality rate for twins IS higher in places without good nutrition, good prenatal care, adequate caloric intake, adequate vaccination programs, etc. Their general infant mortality rate is higher, period. I'm pretty sure the mortality rate in developed countries is much lower.

 

I agree with PP I wouldn't take anything that wikipedia says too seriously as anyone can post on there!
