Again, 4 days since a BM  . Needless to say I do not feel good. Here is a list of things I have tried:
    1. I drink 2+liters of water daily.
    2. I tried the warm prune juice....Nada
    3. I have taken up to 4 metamucil pills a day...worked for a little while, now nada.
    4. Drank the recommended dose of Milk of Magnesia, again worked for a little while, now nothing.
My fiber intake is not the problem, I need a stimulant!!!

Has anyone taken an enema during pregnancy? I have always had bouts of constipation and this was my cure all, but now I don't know if I can or not. I need help today..PLEASE!!!! I really don't feel like eating. ARGHHHH, this is so very freaking agrivating.

    TIA

I was on Senokot, at the recommendation of my doctor to keep things moving. This is a combo of senna and collace, which apparently is a more natural approach. It can be found at the drugstore, but you might want to check with your doctor first.

Are you drinking warm Prune Juice regularily...or just when things are backed up...if you drink it first thing in the AM everyday that may help things be a bit more regular.

I have also found that dried apricots flush the system, corn and oranges...at least that helps me out. I can not imagine how you are feeling except really bloated and miserable!!!

Also call your doctor about a safe stool softener...again, i think this is something that you need to take for a bit...not a quick fix/

hope that helped a bit, good luck

I would try to take the powder metamucil instead of the pills. The pilss never worked for me. Good Luck!!!

Oh...bless your heart!!! :( I had the same problem and my Dr. suggested Senokot or Colace. I tried the Senokot and it worked by also made me cramp. So I switched to the Colace (which is a softener and natural) and it worked everytime! Once I found what worked, my Dr. suggested taking it daily to keep things moving!! :) Hope you get some relief soon!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I will try some more of your tips with Drs. approval, but I really wanted to do the enema today for the quick fix. Just tired of being this way. I deal with this all the time and do not wait to take action at the last minute.
Yep, been doing the warm prune juice for a while now.
I am sure I will find something that works for me, again today I am feeling pretty desperate, thats all.

You aren't alone!!! I was constipated already and then add to that I'm on zofran which makes it ten times worse. I'm taking colace and STILL only averaging about one BM a week. I hope you feel better soon. When it got really bad, I went out and ate a bunch of greasy mexican food which, um, evacuated everything. It made me throw up too, but I was REALLY glad to go!!!

I don't eat much--still battling the hyperemesis--but I called the doctor's office in tears last week I felt so bad--they made some recommendations, but so far I am just struggling through it.

Not that this is ideal, but when I was truly so uncomfortable I was OUT OF MY MIND, I drank half a cup of regular coffee. It was in my second trimester, and I was desperate. It did the trick.

I hope you feel better soon - that is nothing but pure misery........

Ok DO NOT DO THE ENEMA!!!!! I am a nurse and an enema is a trick some midwives use to stimilate labor! (now it really should only work if the cervix is favorable but still I don't want you to take that chance.) I know how you feel, how horrible it is. Please try taking colace instead. I have never tried any of the pregnancy approved laxatives because my tummy is way too sensitive to cramping (and I don't want to miss contractions because of the cramping.) I take the colace at night before I go to bed (taking two for the first dose) then I usually feel much better by lunch time the next day. Then for a week usually I take one a day at bed time and this keeps me regular. But I don't like how soft my stools are at the end of the week so I stop it until I get backed up again. I hope this helps and I'm so sorry!

I knew it would be a good reason as to why I can't. Thanks for telling me.

I used Colace and Peri-colace as instructed by my doc. Colace is just a softener, not a stimulant. Peri-colace has the stimulant in it. Check with your doc to see if these would be ok!

Colace Capsules contain docusate sodium. Docusate sodium is a stool softener used in the treatment of occasional constipation (irregularity).

Peri-Colace Tablets contain docusate sodium and standardized senna concentrate. This product is a stool softener/stimulant laxative used in the treatment of occasional constipation (irregularity).
