    It's a singleton.

So I had my first ultrasound yesterday, I saw one little one, and I swear it was already flailing it's limbs in every direction.

I'm almost 10 weeks; the due date is May 19th.

Doctor wants a c-section since it's so close to my last one. :sorry:

    Yay for healthy baby!!

And don't let your docs push you for a c/s section because it's "so close" to you last one. There is no data to support that. And 2 years isn't close together. Do your best to research your options using actual medical research/reasons.

    Congrats again!

You and I will have had #3 about the same time apart. When I went in for the first visit with her-she asked me what I wanted to do-c/s or vaginal. I was floored. I thought she was against vbac's. But she said she would support me in my decision, whatever it may be.

I chose c/s because I knew what it entailed already and I could prepare for childcare with the boys, amongst other things.

That said-she never said it was too close. I think after I had the twins, she didn't want it to be within 18 months-and we were 19. LOL! And-she strongly would have pushed for a vbac if we were having more....

    TOO CLOSE??!?!
my baby will be here when the girls are 22 months old. I would be very upset if my doctor told me that I needed a c-section for that reason. I've never heard that before. However I don't know the type of surgery you had and that makes a difference:
did you have an emergency c/s?
    a vertical incision?
    failure to progress?

My c/s was due to breech presentation and that's not likely to repeat itself so there should be no indication for a preemptive c/s. I don't have my first appt until nov 11th but I hope my doctor doesn't suggest it.

ITA. I did my research and the increased risk happens when your c/s is 12 months or less apart... you'd pretty much have to get pregnant right after having a c/s to have an increased risk. Go find a different provider if you really want a vbac. Chances are your doctor just doesn't want to do vbac no matter what the circumstances, and he's just using the timeframe as an excuse. I've had a vbac already, and I've done a ton of research on it...and there are lots and lots of docs who simply don't want to deal with it. They prefer managed labors involving epidurals and pitocin, and those things aren't the best options for vbac patients.

Yea for one! Now just keep thinking pink!

I read up about VBAC and found on my own I'm not a good candidate due to my type of insicion and having a blood type that is rare in this region, I need to do everything possible to minimize the risk of hemmorage. But doctors say some crazy things sometimes. I saw a guy at the public hospital last week that said, before seeing my insision or anything, "You'll have to have another C/S because you're over 35."

Congratulations! How exciting, I'm glad everything looks great. I am definitely having a c-section with this baby since it will only have been 14 months since my last surgery. I know there isn't much hard data on this subject but from what I've learned most of the cases in which repeat c-sections were studied occurred approximately two years apart or greater. The chance of rupture is also higher if you have had a vertical incision. I'm not a risk taker and while I'd love to know what childbirth feels like, it's not worth the risk to me to possibly have my scar rupture. Do your research and do what feels right for you and your family. Congratulations again!!

Congratulations on your healthy singleton!! :)
As far as a repeat c-section goes, I agree with the others that you should get your OB to give you a better explanation of why they want to do it and if you are not happy with that decision then look into other options.

I have had two normal vaginal births, one being twin A twin B was so high up and presenting hand first so I had to have an emergency c-section. Everything I've read says I'm a good candidate for a VBAC because that was 7 years ago, the incision type was the right one etc. Where I live there is only one hospital and their policy is not to allow VBAC, if you come in to the hospital in labor and refuse a c-section they will call in anesthesia, have the OR ready and the charges for both will be charged to you NOT your insurance or medicaid.

They did give me a list of other hospitals that will allow for a VBAC if I wanted to travel there to have my baby, but I live on an island in Alaska so I already have to take a 3 hour ferry ride to the hospital, I am not going to get on a jet and travel to Anchorage or Seattle just to try for a VBAC. I can see how some people would, but I've already experienced vaginal birth twice and although I'd rather have a VBAC it is not that important to me this time. I do think it is sad that so many hospitals have this policy though. Good luck!

Congrats Rachel! That must be a bit of relief, I know it was for me.

My OB let me try for a VBAC and they were only 13.5 months apart. If it wasn't for stalling at 7cm-stretchy to 9cm and her being so big I would have completed the VBAC. I had no complications with my uterus, just a very big baby who's head wasn't fitting down there to keep pressure on my cervix. Anyways, personally I would choose to VBAC, but I had also 4 vaginal birth before and hoped for another one much easier recovery in my opinion. My OB who has been practicing for 50 years and delivered 7000+ (he stopped counting there, lol) said he had only had 2 uterine ruptures in all that time. I didn't ask him what the cause was, but that's less than the 1% of VBAC attempts that is often quoted.

Sorry ladies, I lost track of my thread.

So here's what happened last time. Let me preface this by saying my doctor had twins vaginally, so she's not opposed to it, but she probably does have a little that c-section is safer for her malpractice insurance thing in the back of her head.

Last time I made it to 38 weeks, and I had no signs of my cervix dilating or effacing. Nothing was happening to my cervix, I was having no contractions (well nothing I felt anyways), and the boys were supposedly over 7.5lbs each. Their amniotic fluid wasn't even decreasing. Given the presentation with my cervix, I was not a good candidate for induction. I would have needed cervidil, and that is not recommended for multiple pregnancies.

We talked and I asked that we wait it out until just over 38 weeks to see if I progressed, but nothing happened, and I told her that if I didn't progress I would go ahead and have a c-section. It was a tough decision, but I did find data supporting her contention that risks to the mother in twin pregnancies go up dramatically after 38 weeks. I figured at that point, it was probably safer for me and these allegedly huge twins (you can see their actual weights below) to go ahead with a c-section.

This time. I figured hey it's a singleton; things might be easier. I'm still worried about not showing signs of going into labor, and I'm considering getting my tubes tied. Both of those would make me lean toward c-section, but it would be nice to have a birth the old fashioned way. I guess I don't know what I'm missing on the recovery since I've only had a c-section. I'm also paranoid that I'm going to have a huge singleton. If I carried 13.5 lbs of twins, I'm thinking I'm might have a big old 9 pounder. :D

That is a distinct possibility!! :D

You have a while to think about this. I hope you are having a great pregnancy so far!

You had big twins, right? How big was Evan?

I know Pam's Jubilee was nearly 11 lbs, and you two both were in a similar situation as with with twin birth weights.

My boys totalled 13 lbs even. Annabella came out at 7lbs 9oz. :)

CONGRATS on a singleton!! I know I was a nervous wreck for some silly reason I'd see two and as much as I LOVE my twins I don't think I can handle another set of twins this close together (the twins will be 17 months when this one is born). My OB said she's happy to try a VBAC because my c-section scar looks great. Only thing is we'll be moving to who knows where when I'm 32 weeks (we're in the Army now and we'll be moving to our first duty station at that point) SO we'll see what the new OB says. I am hoping to try VBAC because of recovery time but honestly if we can schedule a c-section when the "daycare" is open that might not be bad either since we may not have anyone to stay with the twins. Eeeeks so much to think about!! LOL Anyway - congrats to you and see if the Doc will at least let you try a VBAC or do some research on it and bring it in.
