I had a vaginal delivery! Actually a lot of moms on here have had a VB with twins. I was planning all through my pregnancy to have a CS because my babies weren't both head down. At 33 weeks they both went head down and I was able to have a VB. At first I was really nervous to have a VB because I had just psyched myself up for a CS, but everything went wonderful. Good luck to you!!

I did!! YEA!! I talked to my ob about it and I told her that I really didn't want to be cut. My thought was that I would have enough to adjust to without having one more thing to deal with. It went wonderfully! They did take me in the OR just in case something went wrong, but nothing did. I was in there for about 30 min before both of them were born, they were 10 min apart. I loved it and would do it that way again. The only thing is that they both have to be turned the correct way. After my first was born, the dr held the other in place so he wouldn't turn. I will not lie though, it was prob the longest 30 min of my life, but would not trade it for anything! :D

Oh I'm sooooo glad to hear that! You all had me scared. If I HAVE to have a csection I will, it's all about what is good for the babes but I'd prefer not too!!

I think it drastically depends on your Dr. Some Dr's..many actually...prefer to do a c-section because it is easier on THEM. However, my Dr. (with a lot of twin experience) told me if I am before 35 weeks they will do a C-section because the bones in their skull wouldn't be ready to be pushed through the birth canal, and they could suffer strokes. So much to think about! I hope to deliver vaginally too!!! Good luck mama :D

I had a VB with mine and they weren't both head down. Twin A was bigger and head down and Twin B was breech. They did a breech extraction of twin B. My MFM specialist actually prefers vaginal delivery if they are presenting right...ie both head down (vertex, vertex) or vertex, breech with the vertex baby being the largest. But in his practice there are lots of regular OBs who only deliver twins by c-section. Like pp said it is more the comfort level of your doctor. Good luck!!

Vaginal delivery here. It was actually easier than I had imagined. Of course I had imagined the worst!

It can also depend on your previous deliveries. I had c-section with my 5 yr. old because he never dropped into the birth canal and I never dilated past a 1.5. My OB said I have a high chance of this happening with these babies and that trying the VBAC with this situation actually has a fairly high mortality rate of twin babies. So needless to say, we're already set with the c-section plan!

I agree with pp - it depends on the doctor as well as the babies' positions! Mine were both head down, but my original OB kept telling me he'd probably still do a c-section. I moved to a different county during my 7th month and had to go to a new OB and new hospital...and they were excited to see that they were both head down! I ended up having a totally natural twin birth, no problems, and a week later so did another mom at the same hospital (she's now a friend through a local twin group). So yes, if the doctors are willing and the babies cooperate, it is possible. There were several other sets of twins born the week before mine and two were c sections and another was the scenerio we all try to ignore...one vaginal and the other emergency c-section. Just talk to your doctor about the risks. I delivered in an operating room "just in case" and had both babies on monitors. I didn't want to take a chance with baby B just to have my vaginal birth. When they lost him for a minute on the monitor, they grabbed a kiwi suction and pulled him down so we didn't have any worries.

A twin pregnancy is full of so many unpredictable factors. I just got it through my head that a c-section might be the only way, but that I would try for vaginal if possible. That way if things hadn't worked out, I was mentally prepared for either. We were lucky enough after a pregnancy full of complications to have a nice easy delivery...my water broke on it's own and the babies arrived less than 8 hours later.

My other two were both VB, the 2nd was completely natural, no drugs. I had a midwife lined up b/f I knew it was twins. My sil told me that her friend ended up having both too, so I"m scared about that. I guess we'll wait and see what their positioning is like later on! Twin A is head down right now but I know that can change, Twin B is alll over the place... this kid is going to turn me grey at an early age <_<

Oh my  My perinatologist and I discussed this at length beforehand and he assured me that delivering vaginally would be healthier for me and the babies, regardless of their prematurity, as long as I could pull it off. I did end up delivering vaginally and no skull crushing here! I get a little tired of the fear-mongering among doctors. CS's are definitely easier for them, 20 minutes and they're off for lunch! I hate to think docs are out there passing on bad info though <_<

My OB was more for going vag than the section. but the other Ob in the office does an automatic section with twins.
my dr said he would hate to send me home with 2 newborns after major surgery and so if at all possible thats what he does.
i had a Wonderful vag delivery (loved the epidural) at 38 weeks and 4 days we were induced.
    Baby A 5 lbs 10 oz
    Baby B 5 lbs 5 oz
I am hoping i have as great an experience this time around.
    Good Luck to you

I have to have a c-section with the twins, but that's only because I had two prior ones. Otherwise, my OB said that he delivers twins vaginally all the time. Good luck! I hope it works out for you!

I had a VB with baby A vertex and baby B breech. I was induced at 34w5d because of pre-e and HELLP. It was a complicated birth but no regrets - we all came out healthy.

I've NEVER heard of a Dr saying a baby's skull can't go through the birth canal before 35 weeks - that's just bunk!

VB here too, my ob only does a c/s if there is a need for one and baby A was head down in my case so VB it was!

I had one of each- I really wanted a vaginal delivery for both, and they were head down and the OB was all for it. SHe did warn us that sometimes it turns into a "full meal deal" if the second baby turns after the first is out. In our case, Baby A (DS) was an easy vag birth, 10 minutes/3 contractions, but Baby B (DD) prolapsed her umbilical cord and they had to knock me out and do an emergency C-section.

If I had to choose over again knowing the end result, I wouldn't change a thing. There are so many advantages to the babies with vaginal birth- labor helps them to be alert and active, and vag delivery helps clear the lungs, among other things.

GL- whatever you do, it's right for you. Enjoy meeting your LOs!

I had a vaginal birth two! one was head down and the other was a footling breech. i think it depends on your doctor delivering and what you want to do. i had two other children previously and it took 2 hours labor and one push to get baby a out and they reached in and pulled baby b out. the hardest part was delivering the placenta. it was huge! i had to push more for that then the babies combined! it is very possible! be sure to push for one! good luck to you! you are a part of the few mommies who are blessed with twins!!
PS its not as hard as you might think!!! :p

I delivered my girls vaginally. I almost had a c section for Sabrina, because she went transverse after Sydney was born and wouldn't turn, dispite the OB and midwife basically jumping on me. But at the last minute, her water broke and she dropped breech. The Dr. grabbed her feet and she was out in 1 push. I really don't understand the Drs who won't let you go vaginally if baby B is breech, when A vertex, and I'm so glad it wasn't a problem for us.

I had a VBAC with first twin and c section with second for prolapsed cord (very rare). I think it is about 50/50 of the twin mums i know have VB.

I had a vaginal birth. My twins were preemies born at 29 weeks, with PPROM as a complication, and the perinatalogists still felt it was better to have a vaginal birth if possible. They did think I might need a c-section when I didn't progress as fast as they wanted, since I had infected membranes. However, I progressed really fast towards the end, so they said let's go for it. I had to deliver in the OR, in case I needed a crash c-section. I think most hospitals do this with twins. Baby A was vertex and Baby B was breech. They did a procedure called a breech extraction to get Baby B out!

I had a vaginal delivery at 37 weeks. My OB asked if I wanted a CS, but I said I'd like to avoid it. I dreaded the recovery from a CS. Both of my babies were head down. If baby B flipped, I was going to attempt a breach delivery. Luckily he didn't. Baby A was 7lbs, 9oz and I pushed for 45 minutes. Baby B was only 5lbs and basically just slid right out. I don't even remember pushing for the 2nd baby!

Mine were vaginal too. Baby B was breech, but they turned him before he came out (thank god for the epi!). Like PPs, I think a lot of it depends on your OB. Right from the get-go, my OB told me there was probably only a 10% chance I would need a c-section.

I've heard this, too. I wasn't going to have to deliver in the OR, because my OB (the local twins specialist) didn't feel I had problems to warrant it, and the maternity ward OR is just right across the hall from the labor/delivery rooms. BUT, the day I delivered the girls, the ventilation system in the maternity OR wasn't working. And since the regular OR was down 14 floors and across the hospital, that would have been too far if an emergency had occurred. So I did end up delivering in the OR. Not my favorite delivery place, w/ all the metal, sterile white and bright lights, but it wasn't that big of a deal to be there.

My Dr. said he would only do a VB if BOTH babies are vertex. He does not feel comfortable doing a vertex/breech VB since he says he's had bad experiences. For the well being of me and my babies, I feel well enough to have a C-Sec if they are not both vertex.

I had my 2 vaginally too. They were both head down from my first ultrasound and had stayed like that so when i went into labour at 32.4 weeks i told them they were both head down. But when they checked me DD had flipped and was breech! I hadnt even felt her flip lol . Doctors managed to turn her after DS was out! GOtta love epidurals! x

Sure, I did. Twin A was head down, Twin B was transverse breech. They managed to turn Twin B right after I delivered Twin A, and he was born three minutes later. It was so fast that I didn't even realise that I'd had him at first!
