I just wanted to pop in and share my experiences with you guys, since I was a bit lukewarm about the experience thanks to an irresponsible instructor early on. We switched to a new instructor who is really great with the boys and it has made such a HUGE difference!

Jacob has had a few days where he is laughing and giggling so much he can hardly stop himself for long enough to catch a breath before going under!
Jackson, my "spirited" child, has even had a few moments of giggling mixed in with his protestations.
Both boys are swimming so confidently and are really thriving in the water. They no longer cry when getting ready for class, and they love to raise their hands and say "Yay!!!" when I ask them who is a big swimmer. Mom gets to go in the water with them on Fridays, and it makes them especially happy to swim to me- that in turn makes whole experience so amazingly rewarding.

While it was tough for us in the beginning and we hit a lot of roadblocks with a bad instructor, I don't regret it and I do strongly encourage anyone considering it to do it if at all possible. :D

That's great! What a relief! Glad to hear it's all working out.

I'm interested in hearing more about it. Can you explain the program. How, exactly, do they get them to tread water/swim/not drown?

I really don't know much about the program. I think I rememeber reading something about monitoring their diet and temperature while paricipating in ISR. Why?

Also, is the instruction everyday for 15 minutes or something like that? Do they spend more time in the pool other than that?

I would love to hear more about your experience. I looked, but we don't have any ISR instructors in our area. Swimming is a necessary life skill. You must be so proud of your boys!

The lessons are 5 days a week for 10 mins a day at the same time everyday. They dont spend anymore time in the pool with an instructor, but you can take them swimming at any time to reinforce and play.

That is great! The day I finally felt really confident about my boys swimming abilities was a huge day for me! I wish I'd done ISR, it seems like a much faster and effective method than the more standard route we took.
